Social Security Is More Interested In A Persons Functional Limitations Than A Specific Psychotic Diagnosis
An applicant must be able to prove they cant work even though they are following treatment. Some applicants who suffer from psychosis and do not meet the requirements of the listing are still unable to hold any job. These applicants may not exhibit the stereotyped symptoms of psychosis, such as hearing voices, but they are unable to maintain organized thought patterns or have difficulty with social interactions. If an applicant can prove that their impairment is ongoing and is so severe it prevents them from performing even unskilled labor, they may qualify for SSDI on the basis of a medical-vocational allowance.
Meeting A Disability Listing For Schizophrenia
The Social Security Administration will automatically approve you for disability benefits for schizophrenia if you meet the requirements of Listing 12.03, Schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders, in its Listing of Impairments. disorder, and substance/medication-induced psychotic disorder.)
To be eligible for benefits under this disability listing, you must have medical evidence showing that you have one or more of the following symptoms on a persistent basis, despite taking medication:
- hallucinations or delusions
- illogical thoughts and other disorganized thinking as evidenced by speech, or

I am waiting on my application to be either denied or approved, I am so excited. I plan to move out with my disability checks and get a take-it-easy kind of job. How much do you get from ssdi? Did you have to get a lawyer?
I applied for ssi about 3 weeks ago and last week I received a package of papers to fill out where I have to tell them about my daily activities, if I cook for myself, if I shower regularly, if I am right handed or a lefty , etc. then I have to give a similar form to my relative to fill out about me. I am thinking not to send the package back to social security because they could tell my employer that I am applying for ssi so my employement will be jeopardized. I will get fired once they know I have sz. So I dont think it is worth it. What do you guys think? Anyone who works and is on ssi here? Does your employer know about your illness?

The Intervention Led To An Increased Likelihood Of Being In Current
To examine the impact of the intervention over time, we analyzed cases at two intervals6 months and 12 months after the claims were establishedto learn whether individuals were in current-pay status.2 Individuals in current-pay status were due a payment contingent upon meeting the reporting requirements during the month.
At the 6-month mark, a larger share of the treatment group received an SSI payment , compared with those in the comparison groups: C1 C3 and C2 . . These findings were statistically significant at the 1 percent level, with differences between the treatment and comparison groups ranging from 37 to 59 percentage points. We continued to find statistically significant differences at the 1-year mark. About 74 percent of the treatment group received an SSI payment at 12 months, with differences between the treatment and comparison groups ranging from 23 to 39 percentage points. The share of the treatment group who received payments declined in the interval between the 6- and 12-month marks. For the comparison groups, the shares receiving payments rose during that interval.
For all groups, the percentage of individuals in current-pay status was higher than the percentage who actually received a payment. For this measure, the impact of the intervention follows the same trend with the treatment group having a much higher percentage in current-pay status. The differences were not quite as large, but were still statistically significant.3

Claimants with chronic schizophrenia living with family members are most likely to be improperly denied Social Security disability benefits. It is critically important for family members or other caregivers to provide the Social Security Administration with as detailed information as possible about specific tasks the claimant can or cannot do.
Mental health clinics will often refuse to provide the Social Security Administration with clinical records that are useful in evaluating how a mental disorder has developed over time. In some instances, the Social Security Administration is forced to fall back on purchasing a consultative mental status examination in which the examining psychiatrist or psychologist has limited time to determine the details of daily functional capacity.
