Where Can I Send My Child Disability Benefit Application

Can your Child get Disability Benefits Based on the Autism Disorder.

Once you and your childs medical practitioner have completed the Disability Tax Credit Certification Form T2201, you are ready to have the CRA assess your application for your childs eligibility. You can send your application in two ways:

Are You Eligible For The Disability Tax Credit

These tax credits are aimed at families in which one or more of the children have a disability.

In order to be eligible for the Child Disability Benefit , the child must be first eligible for the Canada Child Tax Benefit which is a program geared towards helping all families care for children under the age of 18.

The CDB, or Disability Tax Credit, is not available for all children with disabilities, however autism is generally included. The government states that eligible children must have a disability which is severe and prolonged continuous for a period of at least 12 months which of course, is true for those affected by autism.

In order to apply for the Disability Tax Credit, a qualified practitioner must attest to the childs disability on one of the forms to be submitted for review by the Canada Revenue Agency .

If Your Situation Changes

You must notify Service Canada if:

  • you stop attending school
  • your attendance changes from full-time to part-time
  • your relationship to the child or to the contributor ends or changes
  • a child is being added to the family or is no longer in your custody and control
  • you change your name, address or bank account for direct deposit

Remember, if you receive payments you are not entitled to, you will have to pay them back.

Do You Have A Spouse Or Common

For CCB purposes, when a child resides with a female parent in the home, the female parent is usually considered to be primarily responsible for the child and should apply. However, if the child’s other parent is primarily responsible, they can apply. They must attach to Form RC66, Canada Child Benefits Application, a signed letter from the female parent that states that the other parent with whom she resides is primarily responsible for all the children in the household. If the child lives with same sex parents, only one parent should apply for all the children in the home.

Note

The female presumption is a legislative requirement and only one payment per household can be issued under the income Tax Act. No matter which parent receives the CCB, the amount wil be the same. For more information, see How do we calculate your benefit.

Incentives That Help You Go To School Work And Save
