National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29 honors the men and women who served and sacrificed during the longest conflict in United States history.
On March 29, 1973, combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam. Generations later, Veterans of this time period are gaining the respect that was not so freely given upon their return. Involving five U.S. presidents, crossing nearly two decades and 500,000 U.S.military personnel, it left an indelible mark on the American psyche.
Returning veterans did not always receive respectful welcomes upon their arrival on American soil. Over 58,000 killed, never to return. The observance recognizes the military service of these men and women who answered the call to serve their country when she needed them. They didnt make the decision to go to war.
Throughout National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we recognize the service and duty rendered by all servicemen and women of this era.

LDVA Secretary Strickland Invites You to Attend Ceremony on March 29
BATON ROUGE Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Joey Strickland cordially invites Vietnam Veterans, friends, families, veteran service organizations, and members of the community to a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans day event being held from 1 p.m. 3 p.m. at the American Legion Nicholson Post #38 on Friday, March 29.
In the coming months, Americans will be uniting to thank and honor Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
On March 29, America will observe National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This special day was added to our national holidays when the President signed into law The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. The LDVA will host their event on that same day at the American Legion Post located at 151 South Wooddale Drive in Baton Rouge, La.
We want to continue to echo a clear message of appreciation, respect, and honor, and offer a sincere Welcome Home, to our Vietnam Veterans, said LDVA Secretary Strickland, who is himself a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War.

Northern Nevada Will Honor First Inaugural National Vietnam Veterans Day In Ceremonies
There will be two ceremonies in northern Nevada to honor the first inaugural National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This national day was set aside in the Spring of 2017 to honor the men and women who served and sacrificed in one of the longest conflicts in United States history.
A wreath-laying ceremony will be held in Carson City on Saturday, March 31st at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial in Mills Park at 5:00 p.m.
Earlier in the day, another wreath-laying ceremony will be held in Winnemucca at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Park.
The Vietnam War left an indelible mark on the American psyche. Returning Veterans did not always receive respectful welcomes upon their arrival on American soil.
There were 58,000 killed, never to return. National Vietnam War Veterans Day recognizes the military service of these men and women who answered the call to service to their country when needed.
The National Day set aside is March 29th. It was on that date in 1973 when combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam. Generations later, veterans of this time period are now gaining the respect that was not so freely given upon their return. The Vietnam War involved five U.S. Presidents crossing nearly two decades and impacting some 500,000 U.S. men and women who served their country.

Vietnam War Veterans Day was first observed as a one-time occasion on March 29, 2012, when President Barack Obama issued a proclamation calling on all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
The day was then introduced as an annual event in 2017 when President Donald Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017.

Where Do People Celebrate Vietnam Veterans Day
National Vietnam War Veterans Day is celebrated all across the country. Recognition dinners, ceremonies, reunions and other events are organized at community, state and national levels to give thanks to those who have served.
The most popular place to honor Vietnam veterans is at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. This three-part monument consisting of the Three Soldiers Statue, the Vietnam Womens Memorial and the iconic wall listing the names and dates of our Vietnam War casualties creates a poignant memorial to the men and women who served and sacrificed during the war. In 2016, Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Veterans Affairs Secretary Bob McDonald honored Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day at the memorial by participating in a wreath-laying ceremony.
If you cant make it to Washington or a nearby regional event, refer to the schedule for The Wall That Heals, a travelling education center and mobile half-scale replica of the famous memorial wall. Typically, you can find photo exhibits and memorials at VA centers and cemeteries, too.

City of Houston Invites the Public to Attend Annual National Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony
The Mayor’s Office of Veterans & Military Affairs and Mayor Pro-Tem Dave Martin will host the Vietnam War Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Houston City Hall.
National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed annually on March 29 and is an opportunity for all to thank and honor the nation’s Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
The event is open to the general public, active-duty personnel, veterans, and elected officials. This year’s guest speaker, a decorated Vietnam veteran, will share his experience about his service in Vietnam and his journey through life post-military duties.
Active-duty military personnel will present an official Vietnam Veteran lapel pin to each Vietnam War veteran in attendance who served on active duty from November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975.

We don’t have an international authority or governmental remit to declare any officially celebrated “national Viet Nam War Veterans day”. We only aim to programatically reflect what ‘National Day’ it is based of what The Internet Says It Is. Why We Honor Vietnam Veterans For Their Sacrifice
The Vietnam War was a profoundly challenging conflict for many reasons, and it claimed the lives of many American soldiers. In total, 58,220 Americans lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Additionally, over 304,000 U.S. service members were wounded during the Vietnam War. These numbers reflect the cost of this war, and the sacrifices Vietnam veterans made for our country.
As if life-altering combat were not enough, most Vietnam veterans endured tremendous repercussions when they returned home from the war. They were met with protests and hostility, and often carried wounds far beyond the physical. A large percentage of Vietnam veterans suffer PTSD from their time in this war. The alarming findings from one study mandated by Congress in 1983 showed that approximately 30% of men and 27% of women had PTSD at some point following Vietnam.
Despite all of this suffering on their return, many Vietnam veterans felt they didnt receive the support they needed. With a growing anti-Vietnam War sentiment throughout the U.S., there was little to no gratitude shown by the American people for their service and sacrifice. Without adequate support systems in place for healing, many Vietnam veterans turned to drugs and alcohol to ease their pain. Many studies have shown that Vietnam-era veterans have substantially higher alcohol consumption and drug abuse.

A Proclamation On The Commemoration Of The 50th Anniversary Of The Vietnam War
On National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we honor all those who bravely served in the Vietnam War and who sacrificed, as did their families and caregivers, on behalf of our Nation.
For almost two decades, Americans raised their right hands and committed to serve and defend our Constitution as uniformed members of the United States Armed Forces during a tumultuous period in our countrys history. Throughout the years of the Vietnam War, 9 million Americans earned the title of United States veteran. Today and every day, we honor their bravery and commitment and give thanks to a generation of Americans who valiantly fought in service of the country they love while recognizing the continuing impact on so many veterans of the Vietnam conflict, along with their families, caregivers, and survivors. We will always remember those we lost and honor those who came home.
To the families of the over 1,500 service members who remain missing and unaccounted for, know that our Nations efforts to bring them home will never stop.
We pledge our steadfast care and support to our Vietnam veterans, as we do for all of our veterans. We will honor our sacred obligation to you and your family.
