Cantigny
Cantigny is the former home of Colonel Robert R. McCormick, longtime editor, and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. The 500-acre estate features gardens, the Robert R. McCormick Museum, the First Division Museum, and a 27-hole championship public golf course. 5K participants and their families are invited to explore and enjoy Cantigny.
Cantigny 5K Run/Walk 2022
The Cantigny 5K Run/Walk is a benefit for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.
The course will start from the Visitors Center parking lot and will wind past the gardens, through the grounds, and across the rolling hills of the Cantigny Golf Course, finishing in the South Parking Lot.
After the awards ceremony, enjoy free access to the grounds and museums for the rest of the afternoon.
Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans
All proceeds from the Cantigny 5K Run/Walk will benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton, IL. The shelter is a not-for-profit transitional living facility that provides assistance to U.S. veterans of any era, the opportunity to return to useful and productive lives by providing them with the skills for independent living.
Their mission: To provide veterans and their families with housing and supportive services that lead to self-sufficiency.

Supportive Services For Veteran Families
Supportive Services for Veteran Families is a homeless prevention and rapid re-housing program for low-income veterans and their families, who are homeless or who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Through SSVF, which is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans provides veterans and their families with intensive, short-term case management, housing stabilization services, linkages to VA and mainstream benefits, and temporary financial assistance, based on eligibility. MSHV offers SSVF across ten northern Illinois counties: Bureau, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle, Putnam, and Will.

What We Aim To Solve
MSHV aims to address ending Veteran Homelessness. There is a need for affordable housing, employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, and mental illness treatment. MSHV ensures that no veteran is left behind due to homelessness, joblessness, poverty and/or mental-health issues. Our desire is to ease suffering for veterans and their families and to empower veterans to become self-sufficient, productive members of their communities.

May 22 Bike Ride To Benefit Midwest Shelter For Homeless Veterans

Show up on Sunday, May 22, for a bike ride to benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton. No registration is required for these 20- or 40-mile rides, or the shorter kids ride.Daily Herald file photo
Are you looking for a good reason to get motivated and ride your bike this weekend?
Join a bike ride to benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton on Sunday, May 22.
The ride will begin at 9 a.m. with a 40-mile ride for more experienced and faster paced riders. Or join them at 9:45 a.m. for a 20-mile social ride at a casual pace.
There will also be a 10:30 a.m. kids ride on the Illinois Prairie Path. The kids ride north on the Illinois Prairie Path and turn around at County Farm Road or sooner.
Donations to the shelter can be made before or after the ride or via the website, www.helpaveteran.org/donate.
Burger Social, 108 N. Hale St. in Wheaton, has generously donated their upstairs space for a social gathering after the ride.
There is no registration needed — just show up. This is not a race — just a fun ride.
All rides begin at the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 433 S. Carlton Ave. in Wheaton. All routes will be unsupported and on roads that are open. Please plan ahead and ride at your own risk.
T.J. Luby, a 32-year-old lifetime Wheaton resident, is passionate about biking.
T.J. decided to turn his passion into something that could benefit our homeless veterans right here in Wheaton.

Domiciliary Care For Homeless Veterans Program
The Domiciliary Care Program is the Department of Veterans Affairs oldest health care program. Established through legislation passed in the late 1860’s, the Domiciliary’s purpose was to provide a home for disabled volunteer soldiers of the Civil War. Domiciliary care was initially established to provide services to economically-disadvantaged Veterans, and it remains committed to serving that group. The Domiciliary has evolved from a “Soldiers’ Home” to become an active clinical rehabilitation and treatment program for male and female Veterans and domiciliary programs are is now integrated with the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Programs .

For over 10 years, the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans has been providing housing and necessary services to at-risk and homeless veterans and their families to help them achieve self-sufficiency. Too many of our nations veterans are struggling with post-traumatic stress, depression, unemployment, substance abuse and homelessness. Dear Hupy and Abraham,
Thank you for donating to the Ron-De-Voo Tavern Poker Run on July 23, 2015 for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. We are honored that you chose MSHV to receive your support. Your contribution will make a real difference in the lives of the veterans we serve.
MSHV offers an array of programs that assisted over 300 homeless and at-risk veterans and veteran families last year. Our Larson Program provides a structured living environment and comprehensive case management to help homeless veterans rebuild their lives. Our Miller Home offers affordable housing as our veterans move toward greater self-sufficiency, and our Freedom Commissary helps struggling veteran households make ends meet by providing free clothing and other basic necessities.
2014 marked the first full year of our Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program, the expansion of our Veterans Employment Program and the introduction of our Veterans Nutrition Program. We also began taking applications for Tammys Trace, the first local program specifically for homeless female veterans.
This dynamic pace continues in 2015, as we monitor and respond to the evolving needs of veterans in our seven-county services area. We thank you for helping us to aid these brave men and women who have served our nation so selflessly. They have their all, and they deserve no less from us in return.

Health Care For Homeless Veterans Program
Initially serving as a mechanism to contract with providers for community-based residential treatment for homeless Veterans, many HCHV programs now serve as the hub for a myriad of housing and other services that provide VA with a way to reach and assist homeless Veterans by offering them entry to VA care.
Outreach is the core of the HCHV program. The central goal is to reduce homelessness among Veterans by conducting outreach to those who are the most vulnerable and not currently receiving services and engaging them in treatment and rehabilitative programs.
Another aspect of HCHV is the Contract Residential Treatment program, which places Veterans with serious mental health diagnoses into quality, community-based, supportive housing.
