Filling Out Your T2201 Form On Your Own

How to Apply for Social Security Disability Benefits online.
Many Canadians elect to fill out their T2201 form by themselves, but because the process is so demanding, those people end up having their application denied.

Without the proper help and guidance of a specialized Disability Tax service company, many people fail to convince the CRA that they have a severe and prolonged mental or physical disability. Many Canadians who apply for the Disability Tax Credit don’t realize the lengths they have to go to convince the CRA that they have a disability that keeps them out of the workforce and makes it difficult to perform basic daily tasks.

This is why many Canadians with disabilities don’t receive the money they need from the government. Without the requisite knowledge or experience, these people submit a T2201 form that is either incomplete or just not persuasive.

Important Things To Know About The T2201 Form

The process of filling out your T2201 form and getting approved for the Disability Tax Credit can be long and uncertain. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when going through the process:

Purpose of Form

Your T2201 form must provide irrefutable proof that you are living with a disability that adversely affects your ability to work. We take the worry and stress out of filling out your form with our over ten years of experience helping clients complete their form and get approved for the Disability Tax Credit.

Complete Both Sections

It is imperative that both parts of the T2201 form are completed. Many people applying for the DTC choose to fill out only some of their form. With our help, we make completing the entire T2201 form simple and stress-free.

Medical Check-Up

It is essential that a medical practitioner certifies you in some key areas, including visions, speaking, hearing, walking, mental functions, and more. Without this, your application will not be approved.

Time Length

Once the CRA has received your T2201 form, you can expect to wait 4 – 6 weeks before you find out if you’re application has been approved or not.

What Am I Entitled To And Where Can I Apply For The Benefits

The amount of your earnings-related and contributory pension always depends on the number of insurance years covered and the total amount of payments. In addition to the contribution periods, periods of reduced contribution and contribution-free periods can also increase the pension. You receive a pension only if you apply for it in advance from the pension provider.

Reintegration benefits:

If the fitness for work of an insured party can be maintained or restored, in place of a pension the pension provider pays for the required services for reintegration such as rehabilitation measures, retraining or other training programmes , if the insurance and personal conditions are satisfied.

The pension provider also covers:

  • Benefits for reintegration into the workplace,
  • Benefits to promote fitness for work,
  • Preventive measures and
  • Inpatient remedial treatments for the children of policy holders and pensioners,

If these contribute to improving or recovering their threatened or already compromised health. This includes, for example, medical treatments, products, spa treatments or training courses that aim to prepare participants for a new professional activity.

Types Of Disability Benefits In The United States

There are two federal disability programs in the United States, Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income . Both share one requirement: the person who receives the funds has to have a disability that affects their ability to work. However, the programs are different in other ways.

Social Security Disability Insurance gives disability benefits to those who have previously worked for a required time period in the recent past. SSDI benefits are funded through payroll taxes. If you are approved, you can receive benefits starting six months after you became disabled. If you have been disabled for at least a year, you can get back payments of disability benefits from that year. You are eligible for Medicare 24 months after your SSDI benefits began.

Supplemental Security Income gives disability benefits to those who have not worked the required time period and have limited funds. If you are approved, you can receive benefits in the next month. You may also be eligible for back payments of SSI if you became disabled before your SSI approval.

Almost all states provide additional benefit supplements for SSI recipients; but Arizona, Mississippi, North Dakota, and West Virginia do not. Many of the states that offer an SSI supplement have their own eligibility rules.

Its possible to get both SSDI and SSI if you have very limited funds and also have a work history.

What Medical Conditions Qualify For The Disability Tax Credit

The disability tax credit is different from other disability benefits plans. The above disability plans focus on how your medical condition affects your ability to work. The is not focused on your ability to work. Rather, it focuses on impairment with your daily activities.

Eligibility Criteria for the Disability Tax Credit

  • be blind
  • be in at least one basic activity of daily living
  • be significantly restricted in two or more basic activities of daily living
  • need life sustaining therapy

You will automatically qualify for the disability tax credit if your medical condition causes blindness or you to need life sustaining therapy.

To qualify as blind your visual acuity in both eyes must be 20/200 or less or your field of vision in both eyes is 20 degrees or less.

To qualify under the life sustaining therapy requirement, the therapy must be needed to support a vital function, and you must need it at least 3 times per week for an average of 14 hours per week.

The basic activities of daily living include the following:

  • Speaking
  • Dressing
  • Mental functions necessary for everyday life

To qualify for the disability tax credit you must show that you are markedly restricted in one of these areas. A marked restriction means that you are unable to do the BADL or take an inordinate amount of time to do it. This restriction must be present 90% of the time.

Eligibility For Disability Tax Credit

Canadians with a prolonged or permanent physical, neurological or psychological impairment can apply for the disability tax credit. To be considered eligible, the applicant has to be markedly restricted in performing daily activities such as eating, dressing, walking, bathing and so on. The term markedly restricted is defined by the CRA as a restriction that affects the individual 90% of the time or more. Make note that the disability tax credit is not determined based on the nature of the disability, but rather on its severity and how it affects daily activities. Do I Need A Lawyer To Represent Me

You do not need a lawyer to represent you in your appeals, but its better if you can have a lawyer. There are many complicated issues and regulations to be dealt with. Statistics show that there is a better rate of success if you have someone assisting you. Unlike many attorneys, disability lawyers do not charge up-front fees or require a retainer to work on a Social Security disability case. Most disability attorneys and advocates will be paid a fee only if they win the case

Your representative does not have to be a lawyer. Paralegals and other non-lawyers are allowed to represent you in an appeal, but be careful who you have as a representative. Make sure they are qualified and experienced.

How Much Does Az Disability Pay

The Social Security Administration awards SSI benefits based on its belief that the cost of basic needs is the same for people in similar circumstances, regardless of where a person lives. This monthly rate is called a Federal Benefit Rate .

Every year, the government adjusts the FBR to account for a rise in the cost of living over time. This rate is the highest amount a person can receive. Your benefit may be lower, depending on your situation.

Social Security Disability Insurance is calculated in a different way. Your maximum eligible benefit is based on how long you have worked and how much you have paid into Social Security through payroll taxes. The Social Security Administration uses a complex formula to determine your monthly benefits. This amount can be modified if you have other disability benefits or income.
