In 2014-15 and 2018-19, this pilot program also provided veterans and volunteer attorneys with the opportunity to work together to prepare and complete the veterans initial disability benefits claims for submission to the VA.
Nevada Department Of Public Safety Criminal Record Repository
This state agency handles all criminal records and can provide resources and information related to obtaining, expunging, reviewing, and/or correcting criminal records. Free Legal Assistance For Veterans
The Legal Aid Network of Kentucky offers free civil legal services to Veterans who are financially eligible. Financial eligibility is based on income and assets available to the household.
You can access this free civil legal assistance by calling the Veterans’ hotline at 1-844-268-0VET .
When calling this toll-free number you will be asked to identify which of the service areas you reside in and it will then route you to a legal services professional dedicated to assisting veterans.

Homeless Veterans Justice Initiative
Operated by the Commission on Homelessness and Poverty, the Homeless Veterans Justice Initiative works with the VA to address veteran homelessness by fostering replication of Veterans Treatment Courts, supporting the Veterans Justice Outreach Initiative, and removing barriers to housing and self-sufficiency by addressing child support arrears. Nevada Attorney General’s Office Of Military Legal Assistance

The Nevada Attorney Generals Office of Military Legal Assistance provides pro bono legal assistance and representation to active duty, reserve and National Guard service members in a wide area of civil law matters. The OMLA also currently provides assistance to veterans with wills and powers of attorney. The OMLA is the first ever, attorney general-led program offering our military communities access to pro bono civil legal services. Additionally, the program seeks to educate Nevadas communities and create policy aimed at addressing issues affecting our states military families. The OMLA is a comprehensive, statewide program combining the joint efforts of legal aid organizations, private sponsors and the State Bar of Nevada to address the need for affordable legal representation in our military communities.

Free Military Legal Assistance
If you need to write your will, are considering signing a lease, or need a power of attorney or notarized signature then you need legal assistance, and best of all military service members and their families have access to legal assistance, absolutely free!Veterans are not eligible for these services. Generally, legal assistance is provided to the following groups:
- All active duty military ,
- Reservists released from active duty, after serving 30 days or more,
- Retirees
- Federal civilian employees and their dependents are also entitled to legal assistance in certain circumstances.
Legal assistance is provided based upon available resources and personnel.
Military Lawyers are part of the Judge Advocate General Corps . JAGs can offer help in legal and non-legal matters like contract law, immigration law, divorce, wills, notary services, etc.

Tax Law For Military Initiative
Operated by the Section of Taxation, the Adopt-A-Base program is a partnership of the Section, the armed forces, and the IRS to provide training to military VITA volunteers on bases across the country. The military VITA volunteers are servicemembers who prepare returns for other service members and their families. As part of the Section’s commitment to pro bono services for our service members, the Section works to recruit law firms or groups of individuals to adopt a local base to provide this important tax training. MACVs Vetlaw program provides legal information, referrals, and legal advice to Minnesota Veterans regarding most legal topics.
Our Veteran advocate lawyers are only able to represent Veterans who are homeless or in danger of homelessness and who meet our low-income limits. Representation is offered on a limited and case-by-case basis.
We offer free legal advice for Veterans, including help with legal forms, to a large number of Minnesota Veterans. Our Veteran advocate lawyers are only licensed to advise on Minnesota state law we cannot advise Veterans on other states laws or federal law but we will help Veterans connect with legal resources in those states that will meet their legal needs.

Veterans Justice Outreach Program

Veterans can sometimes run into issues with law enforcement and the criminal justice system resulting in incarceration. It is important justice-involved Veterans be familiar with VA benefits. For instance:
- What VA benefits they may still be eligible to receive while incarcerated
- What happens to VA benefits they are already receiving, if they become incarcerated
- What programs are available to assist Veterans with reintegrating back into the community once released from incarceration
The aim of the Veterans Justice Outreach program is to avoid the unnecessary criminalization of mental illness and extended incarceration among Veterans by ensuring that eligible, justice-involved Veterans have timely access to Veterans Health Administration services, specifically mental health and substance use services and other VA services and benefits as appropriate. VJO specialists provide direct outreach, assessment and case management for justice-involved Veterans in local courts and jails and liaison with local justice system partners.

American Bar Association Veterans Legal Services
The American Bar Association is the federal program that approves lawyers, and they created a program specifically for veterans to help with a wide range of legal issues. The ABA Military Pro Bono Project is the only national network of attorneys providing pro bono civil legal services to junior-enlisted servicemembers and their families stationed worldwide. Military And Veterans Legal Assistance Program
The Military Legal Assistance Program, now a part of the Georgia Legal Services Program, assists service members and veterans by connecting them to State Bar members who are willing to provide free or reduced-fee legal services.
Service members and veterans often have legal needs in their personal lives and specific to their military service. They also face financial issues and other civil law matters resulting from the sacrifices made in military life. Depending on eligibility, clients will be connected to a lawyer in their geographic area with expertise in their area of need.
