Nevada Ceremonies Planned For National Vietnam War Veterans Day
In Nevada, at least two big ceremonies are planned. In Las Vegas, National Vietnam War Veterans Day will be observed in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Las Vegas Veterans Memorial, located in front of the Grant Sawyer Building at 555 East Washington Avenue. The ceremony will start at 1:30 p.m.

Another ceremony will be held in Carson City on March 31st at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Mills Park beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The day of remembrance is the result of new legislation. Last year, U.S. Senators Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., introduced legislation to honor Vietnam Veterans with a day on the anniversary of the withdrawal of military units from South Vietnam. President Donald Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Day Act on March 28, 2017 setting the day aside on March 29th, beginning in 2018, in honor of those who served.
All around the country, commemorative events, speeches and luncheons are being held inviting Vietnam Veterans as honored guests. Tuesday Marks National Vietnam War Veterans Day
On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, communities around the U.S. will pay tribute to Vietnam veterans and their families on National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
U.S. involvement in Vietnam started slowly with an initial deployment of advisers in the early 1950s, grew incrementally through the early 1960s and expanded with the deployment of full combat units in July 1965. The last U.S. personnel were evacuated from Vietnam in April 1975.
Approximately 9 million Americans served during the Vietnam era . More than 6 million are still alive.
The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 established March 29 as the day to pause and commemorate, remember, recognize and honor Vietnam Veterans, former Prisoners of War, those listed as Missing in Action and their families.
As part of the national observance, the Vietnam War Commemoration is interviewing Vietnam Veterans and their families and archiving these oral history interviews on the commemoration website and via the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Hospice Of Orange & Sullivan Counties Inc Recognizes National Vietnam War Veterans Day 2022
National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed every year on March 29 and is a way to thank and honor our Nations Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
HOSPICE of Orange and Sullivan Counties Inc. will be the lead agency to host the second annual observance of National Vietnam War Day in Orange County. We thank VFW Post 973, Newburgh, NY, Marine Corps League, Detachment #249 of Greater Newburgh, Orange County Veterans Service Agency, and the VET2VET Program through the Mental Health Association of Orange County for joining us in support.
In early 2017, Congress passed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, establishing March 29 as the National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The holiday is also known as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.
Although not a federal holiday, the day is set aside to recognize the sacrifices made by veterans and their families during the Vietnam War. It also honors those men and women who served in that conflict but did not receive a proper welcome home when they returned to the United States due to the wars unpopularity. The date is significant because the last U.S. troops left South Vietnam on March 29, 1973.
The service will take place at Donahue Park, Cornwall-on-Hudson on March 29 at 11:00 am and will offer prayer, the playing of taps, and the reading of the 68 Vietnam soldiers from Orange County who never came home. This will be streamed for public viewing on Hospice of Orange and Sullivans Facebook page.
Why Do We Have Vietnam Veterans Day
You may think having a Veterans Day and then a separate day for Vietnam Veterans seems a little redundant. Well, we may bring up the same point when you go to tune in to three different country music awards on television this year.
Vietnam Veterans Day was first recognized in 2012 thanks to a proclamation by then-President Barack Obama to mark the anniversary of the date that the U.S. escalated its involvement in the struggle.
Each war our country has faced has presented a unique set of circumstances and problems to overcome. With these problems, we need a unique set of service members to face them and defy any odds that may be against us.
We think most Vets can agree with us when we say that the over 2.7 million Vietnam Vets were a different breed, in a league of their own, or any other metaphor you want to throw at them. Thats why we need a special day to honor these special service members.
Vietnam Vets Day is a time for us to look at the challenges these service members overcame, the work they put in, and the sacrifices they made in an attempt to end a growing communist regime.

Is National Vietnam War Veterans Day A Federal Holiday
Vietnam Veterans Day, also sometimes called Vietnam War Day, is not a federal holiday. This means that no one gets off work or school to celebrate it. Novembers Veterans Day, however, is a federal holiday, as is Memorial Day.
You dont need time off to properly respect and support Veterans of the Vietnam War on this day or any day. Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day, another common term for the commemoration, can be celebrated by spending time with any Vietnam Vets you know and contributing to Veteran causes and charities.

Why The Vietnam War Was Unique
If you look up Vietnam Veterans Day images, youll find row upon row of Google images filled with American flags and colorful fonts. If you look up images from the Vietnam War itself, however, youll get a much more realistic and telling story rife with explosions, helicopters, injuries, and obvious struggles of almost every kind imaginable.
The Vietnam War was a vicious battle primarily between communist North Vietnam and their Viet Cong allies in the south against South Vietnam, who the U.S. was fully allied with. North Vietnam sought to unite the two areas under a communist regime.
The war began in 1954 with North Vietnams defeat of the French colonial administration of Vietnam. Large numbers of advisory U.S. military personnel were introduced into the area in 1961, with U.S. combat units coming to Vietnam by 1965.
South Vietnam strove for Western ideals, unlike communist-minded North Vietnam, which preferred the model of communist China and the Soviet Union, both of which supplied the North with ample weapons and supplies during the war.
The Vietnam War was the first war that Americans fought in during the growing era of television, meaning every American could sit down with their frozen dinners which had only recently reached full production in 1954 and experience the war up close and personal like never before.
