Adults Disabled Before Age 22
An adult who has a disability that began before age 22 may be eligible for benefits if a parent is deceased or starts receiving retirement or disability benefits. We consider this a “child’s” benefit because it is paid on a parent’s Social Security earnings record.
The disabled “adult child” including an adopted child, or, in some cases, a stepchild, grandchild, or step grandchild must be unmarried, age 18 or older, have a disability that started before age 22, and meet the definition of disability for adults.

You should be aware of another type of representation called Advance Designation. This relates to the Strengthening Protections for Social Security Beneficiaries Act of 2018, which was signed into law on April 13, 2018.
Advance Designation allows capable adult and emancipated minor applicants and beneficiaries of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Special Veterans Benefits to choose one or more individuals to serve as their representative payee in the future, if the need arises.

- Wait nine days after you become disabled to file your claim.
- File your claim within 49 days of becoming disabled to avoid disqualification.

How Long Will It Take For Ssa To Pay Me
As a rule, it takes one to two months for back benefits to be paid and monthly benefits to begin in a Social Security disability case in which no SSI application was ever filed.
But these are only general rules. In some cases, it takes as long as 3 months for back benefits to be paid. When it takes more than 90 days for back benefits to be paid in a Social Security disability case, it may mean that there has been a bureaucratic mix-up somewhere in the system. In that case it will be necessary to take some sort of action to deal with the;delayed benefits.
If 90 days pass from the date of the decision and I am still not paid my back benefits, is there anything that can be done to speed up payment?

You may be tempted to present your case for reversing the denial of the claim. But be careful not to get too technical or legal in the approach and wording of the letter. You are not a legal or employee benefits expert. The more points you make to support your position, the more places they have to find a fault.
Instead, explain in your own words how the documents you are submitting address the issues the insurers raise in their denial letter.

Your insurance companys denial letter must include the reasons why they are denying your claim. Very often, those reasons revolve around missing information.
