Never Again Will One Generation Of Veterans Abandon Another

Vietnam Veterans of America motto

In January 1978, a group of fifteen Vietnam veteran advocates got together in Washington, D.C., and began the organization that became Vietnam Veterans of America . VVA today is the only congressionally chartered national Vietnam veterans service organization. Over the years, VVA has been the primary organization insisting that the U.S. Government hold up its obligation to all veterans.

The VVA is a respected charity that gives aid to all of Americas veterans, not just those of a particular age group or war.

By donating used clothes, shoes, small appliances, and other household items, you help generate funds to take care of the soldiers and service men and women who help keep America safe from harm.

Vietnam Veterans Of America

Vietnam Veterans of America accepts a good number of furniture items, including desks, entertainment centers, beds, baby furniture and more. If you’d like to donate furniture to this group, go to VVAPickup.org and enter your ZIP code. This will tell you if pick-up service is available in your area. If available, you will be able to schedule a date and time via the site. Alternatively, you can call 1-888-518-VETS .

Dropping Off Your Donation Instead

If youre opting for a drop-off, find out what options are available. Sometimes you can drive up to the charitys store for a quick hand-off. Other charities provide bins and boxes for contactless drop-off, and sometimes you have to go into an actual facility. Especially if you are doing a contactless drop-off, make sure to pair like items, label them, and dont include anything you dont think will sell, like any damaged items. You shouldnt donate anything you cant move or safely store in a storage facility of a moving container. That goes for any hazardous items, like explosives or flammables and corrosives. And, again, ask for a receipt. Even if you use a drive-through option, a staff member should be able to provide you with a receipt.

Doesnt it feel good to do good? Donating through charities that pick up is an excellent way to get rid of stuff, especially big items that are difficult to move on your own. So next time youre ready to edit down your belongings, dont just toss them. Instead, schedule a charity pickup and give a new purpose to your unwanted items.

Done donating before your move? If so, its time to find the best moving company to handle your upcoming move. Check Moving.coms extensive network of reputable and reliable movers. All relocation companies in our network are licensed and insured, so you can rest assured that your move will be in good hands. Good luck and happy moving!

Why There Is No Disabled American Veterans Donation Pickup Service In The Donation Town Directory

Local donations go to veteran support

DonationTown was asked by Disabled American Veterans to remove any of the DAV Donation pick up service contact information from our charity donation pickup directory. For practical reasons, we are including this statement and this webpage because of the inquiries we will need to answer individually if we did not.

Visitors to our website know that we do not charge any charity or donor to use the site. All charities that meet basic guidelines are welcome in our directory. Our number one goal is to help donors connect with charities in their local communities. Nevertheless, we will respect the wishes of the lawyers at Disabled American Veterans and not include DAV donation pickup scheduling information on our website.

Since we know that many of you have written in to DonationTown in the past and have asked us to include Disabled American Veterans in our charity donation pick up directory, we wanted to make sure to let you know that we did not accidentally forget to include DAV in our directory. DonationTown prides itself on being a grassroots organization and we want to encourage all of you to continue to send in information about charities in your community.

Disabled American Veterans is always welcome back on DonationTown.org, if they ever want to reconsider. Its a great charity and we want to encourage all of you to continue to support their mission by donating to DAV donation centers in your local communities.

We Support The Department Of California Disabled American Veterans Charity Organization

DAV helps disabled US Veterans get the assistance that they need. DAV provides free, professional assistance to help veterans get their VA and other government benefits they’ve earned through their service. A portion of the proceeds from your used item donations goes directly to this organization to help all US vets get the benefits they deserve.

What Is Not Available For Pickup

It varies with the organization, as some will only pick up smaller items one or two people can easily pick up and carry. Therefore some organizations wont pick up large furniture or large appliances like a refrigerator or a washer/dryer. Some wont accept TVs of any kind. Most charities say no to tires, building materials and unassembled items. And no donation organization will accept and pick up any hazardous materials, anything broken, damaged or that doesnt meet the current safety standards. No firearms, food or beverages either.

To help make your life even easier, weve compiled the list below of eight charities that offer donation pickups right from your home, donation tips, and information about donating furniture, books and clothing.
