SCHEDULE A DONATION PICKUP
Do you live in the Twin Cities metro area? You can schedule a pick-up of your donated items. We visit most communities in the area once every six to nine weeks. To find out when we’ll be in your neighborhood next, enter your zip code in the ‘GET STARTED” box above or call 651-487-2002.

Dropping Off Your Donation Instead
If youre opting for a drop-off, find out what options are available. Sometimes you can drive up to the charitys store for a quick hand-off. Other charities provide bins and boxes for contactless drop-off, and sometimes you have to go into an actual facility. Especially if you are doing a contactless drop-off, make sure to pair like items, label them, and dont include anything you dont think will sell, like any damaged items. You shouldnt donate anything you cant move or safely store in a storage facility of a moving container. That goes for any hazardous items, like explosives or flammables and corrosives. And, again, ask for a receipt. Even if you use a drive-through option, a staff member should be able to provide you with a receipt.

How Does Furnishings And Home Items Get To A Veteran
AFIL works alongside local agencies who are housing veterans. These agencies confirm veteran status and their needs, then refer them to AFIL for our services. AFIL will then deal directly with the veteran to determine items needed and schedule to deliver these goods.
AFIL and our partner agencies are providing safe, clean living spaces to veterans experiencing homelessness, however, the units are typically unfurnished, leaving these veterans to sleep on the floor, no means to cook, sit, or enjoy the basic comforts of a furnished home. It is this gap we are closing with the support of donated furniture and household items within the community.
Imagine being homeless and then be given an opportunity to get into housing, only to realize that although you have a roof and walls, you still dont have the basic dignity of a bed or a sofa or even some dishes. Furniture for Veterans was established to fill this void. Since the start of this program, AFIL has provided and delivered over $320,000 in donated furniture and items to veterans who were previously experiencing homelessness.

It varies with the organization, as some will only pick up smaller items one or two people can easily pick up and carry. Therefore some organizations wont pick up large furniture or large appliances like a refrigerator or a washer/dryer. Some wont accept TVs of any kind. Most charities say no to tires, building materials and unassembled items. And no donation organization will accept and pick up any hazardous materials, anything broken, damaged or that doesnt meet the current safety standards. No firearms, food or beverages either.
