Direct Award Educational Scholarships For Dependents Of 100% Disabled Veterans

The Folds of Honor foundation offers two exceptional educational scholarship programs for the dependents of disabled veterans. The Childrens Fund Scholarship serves K-12 students while the Higher Education Scholarship serves those seeking a first bachelors degree or a certification at a post-secondary institution. Both types of the Folds of Honor academic scholarships are based on unmet need as determined by documentation submitted by the awardee and can be valued up to $5,000 per dependent per school year. Burial In National Cemetery

100 Disabled Veteran Benefits In California

Veterans who receive a discharge other than dishonorable may be eligible for burial in the National Cemetery. Included in these services are the plot, mausoleum space, opening and closing of the grave, headstones or marker, and full honor guard services. There are minimum active duty service requirements that must be met to qualify for this benefit.

Virginia Military Survivors And Dependents Education Program

The Military Survivors and Dependents Program provides educational benefits to spouses and children of military service members killed, missing in action, taken prisoner, or who became at least 90% disabled as a result of military service in an armed conflict.

The veterans 90-100% permanent disability must have been directly caused by the veterans involvement in military operations:

  • against terrorism
  • as a result of a terrorist act
  • an armed conflict.

In the first tier of the program, eligible students are guaranteed a waiver of all tuition and mandatory fees for eight semesters at a Virginia public college or university, or Eastern Virginia Medical School. In the second tier, eligible students may receive a stipend to offset educational expenses such as room, board, books, and supplies.

California Home Loans For Veterans

CalVet offers home loans with little or no down payment and low interest rates. There is no requirement that a veteran have been a resident of California prior to service and these loans are available to guards and reservists who were ordered to active duty. Discharge must have been honorable or under honorable conditions.

To be eligible, a veteran must have been on active duty 90 days in a row unless:

  • the discharge was due to a service-connected disability
  • an expeditionary or campaign medal was awarded
  • the service was ordered by the President
  • the person is still on active status with the Guard or Reserves after serving for at least one year out of a commitment of at least six years.

Surviving spouses who have not remarried are eligible if the veteran did not serve the full 90 days but:

  • died on active duty
  • died of service-connected disabilities, or
  • is a prisoner of war or missing in action.

Home Loans are available through the State of California to veterans with an honorable discharge. Loans can be for the following: farm, home, mobile home, construction, home improvement and rehabilitation loans and include flood, earthquake and disaster coverage. Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exemption

California gives a property tax exemption for the home of a disabled veteran or an unmarried spouse of a deceased disabled veteran.

There is a basic $100,000 exemption or a low-income $150,000 exemption available to a disabled veteran who, is blind in both eyes, has lost the use of two or more limbs, or is rated totally disabled by the VA or military.

100 Percent Disabled Veterans Qualify For The Veterans Property Tax Exemption!

Disabled wartime veterans with a 100 percent disability rating, those who are blind in both eyes, or veterans who have lost the use of two or more limbs have two options for their exemption on their primary residence:

  • Basic exemption
  • Low-income exemption

The basic exemption for 100 percent disabled veterans for 2022 is $149,993. If your annual household income is below $66,251, you may qualify for the low-income exemption, raising the exemption to $224,911 for 2022. Keep in mind that both the exemption amounts and income requirements increase every year due to inflation. Unremarried surviving spouses of disabled veterans are also eligible for this exemption.

You can only claim one property tax exemption in California. If you qualify for the disabled veterans exemption, this exemption will save you the most money on your California property taxes.

To apply for either exemption, apply with Form BOE-261-G by contacting your local County Assessor. You only have to file for this exemption once unless you move to a new residence.

Education Benefits For California Veterans

Children and spouses, or registered domestic partners, of disabled or deceased veterans can receive a waiver for tuition and fees at a California state university or community college. Surviving spouses of deceased veterans are also eligible, as long as they don’t remarry.

This benefit cannot be used to attend a technical school or a private educational institution. It is only available for California state colleges and universities. Each school has its own residency requirements, and only those students meeting those requirements are eligible for the waiver. Residency decisions are issued by the school.

Special Monthly Compensation Benefits For 100% Disabled Veterans

VA Special Monthly Compensation, also known as VA SMC benefits, is additional tax-free compensation that can be paid to disabled veterans, their spouses, surviving spouses, and parents. For disabled veterans, VA Special Monthly Compensation is a higher rate of compensation paid due to special circumstances, such as the need of aid and attendance by another person or by specific disability. For example, the loss or use of a creative organ, which is Erectile Dysfunction for men and Female Sexual Arousal Disorder for women.

California Property Tax Exemption

Veteran Benefits All Disabled Veterans Qualify For

Veterans who are completely disabled are eligible for a property tax exemption based on the value of their home. Surviving spouses who have not remarried are also eligible. To qualify for this exemption, the veteran must have served during wartime and:

  • be deemed totally and permanently disabled by the VA, or
  • be receiving disability compensation due to:
  • being blind
  • being unable to use two or more limbs, or
  • having lost two or more limbs.

Surviving spouses or registered domestic partners qualify if they are receiving death benefits from the VA.

The exemption will apply to up to $122,128 of the value of the home for someone whose household income exceeds $54,842, or up to $183,193 of the value of the home if the total income in the household is below $54, 842. Tax Credits And Exemptions

New Hampshire offers a standard minimum $700 tax credit for 100% disabled veterans and their surviving spouses.

Full property tax exemptions are granted for any veteran with a 100% Permanent and Total disability rating who is a double amputee of the upper or lower extremities or any combination thereof who is paraplegic or who has blindness of both eyes with visual acuity of 5/200 or less. The veteran must also own a specially adapted home acquired with assistance from the VA.

A 100% disabled veteran who is blind, paraplegic, or a double amputee as a result of service and who owns a specially adapted home acquired with the assistance of the VA is exempt from all property tax on the home. The veterans surviving spouse is also exempt from these property taxes.

Yes! California offers free discounted hunting and fishing licenses to disabled veterans with a disability rating of 50 percent or higher. California disabled veteran benefits include free vehicle registration and license plates to eligible veterans. You must be a 100 percent disabled veteran, a former POW, Medal of Honor recipient, or the surviving spouse of a POW or Medal of Honor recipient.

The fee waiver applies to one passenger car, motorcycle, or commercial vehicle under 8,001 pounds.
