For the first stimulus check, the IRS required those who had just started to receive SSDI or SSI to use the “non-filer page” to file the simple tax return. Individuals who had already been receiving Social Security disability, SSI, or veterans benefits should have automatically received the stimulus money without filing a simple tax return, but they had to submit their non-filer information to the IRS to get $500 for each child under 17. The IRS did not make the non-filer tool available for the second stimulus payment, and it is unknown whether they will do so for the third stimulus payment.

Will I Receive A Payment Even Though I Didnt File A Tax Return

You do not need to have filed a tax return in the past two years in order to qualify for the coronavirus stimulus check. The IRS will automatically send you a payment.

However, please note that in order to receive the $500 payment for dependent children, you will need to either file your taxes for 2018 or 2019. Alternatively, you can submit non-filer information to the IRS to ensure that you receive the proper payment.

Amount Of Your Third Stimulus Check

Every eligible American will receive a $1,400 third stimulus check base amount. The base amount jumps to $2,800 for married couples filing a joint tax return. You also get an extra $1,400 for each dependent in your family .

Not everyone will receive the full amount, though. As with the first two stimulus payments, third-round stimulus checks will be reduced potentially to zero for people reporting an adjusted gross income above a certain amount on their latest tax return. If you filed your most recent tax return as a single filer, your third stimulus check will be phased-out if your AGI is $75,000 or more. That threshold jumps to $112,500 for head-of-household filers, and to $150,000 for married couples filing a joint return. Third-round stimulus checks will be completely phased out for single filers with an AGI above $80,000, head-of-household filers with an AGI over $120,000, and joint filers with an AGI exceeding $160,000.

The SSA has not provided an update on third stimulus payments.

On March 12, the SSA website advised: We will add helpful Q& As to this page soon, like we did for each of the first two rounds of EIPs .

If you still subscribe to receive updates from us when we update our EIP1 and EIP2 pages, we will automatically add you to a subscription list for this new EIP page, the SSA said.

Newsweek has contacted the SSA and U.S. Department of the Treasury for comment.

Will Social Security, SSDI, SSI & Low Income get the 4th Stimulus Check?

Due to a misunderstanding between the Social Security Administration and other parts of the government, some Americans have lost their eligibility for disability payments.

Due to a misunderstanding between the Social Security Administration and other parts of the government, some Americans have lost their eligibility for disability payments, the HuffPost reported this week.

The whole point of stimulus was to help people who were being harmed during COVID, and now theres going to be people facing a cessation of benefits and theyre going to end up in a worse place, Michelle Spadafore, senior supervising attorney with the New York Legal Assistance Group, told the news outlet.

It appears that the stimulus checks have pushed some beneficiaries incomes above the threshold under which they are eligible for benefits, even though that isnt supposed to happen.

The report also noted that the resource limit of $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for couples hasnt been updated since 1989. President Biden, however, has proposed raising that figure, although the legislation has not yet been introduced.

Youre going to give me a stimulus check to stimulate the economy, and I cant go out under doctors orders and youre penalizing me for having this money, one man affected by the mistake said. Now its going to cost me money to have this money.

After the American Rescue Plan passed, Forbes looked at what the legislation does to help disabled people.

Social Security Disability Recipients Included In $2 Trillion Stimulus Bill

The 880-page stimulus bill President Trump signed into law Friday authorizes a one-time payment to most Americans. Heres a quick rundown of what people on SSD should know about getting a federal stimulus payment:

  • Current disability beneficiaries: The government uses your Social Security benefit information to determine whether you qualify for a stimulus payment. Theyll pull information from your SSA-1099, Social Security Benefit Statement or Form RRB-1099, Social Security Equivalent Benefit Statement. This helps confirm your annual adjusted gross income and direct-deposit banking information .
  • Applied for disability, but not yet approved for any Social Security benefits? You must file your 2019 income taxes to receive a stimulus payment its impossible to get one unless you do. If you havent yet filed your tax return because of the July 15 extension, you need to do so now. You can file for free online directly through the IRS.gov website.
  • If you receive your monthly SSDI payments via direct deposit, youll get your stimulus payment much faster. Its still unclear when people can expect to receive these payments. However, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says he expects people with direct deposit to receive theirs sometime in April. So, if the IRS or Social Security Administration already has your direct-deposit info on file, youll get paid quickest. Unfortunately, anyone without direct-deposit could wait until July 2020 to receive a stimulus check by mail.

Am I Eligible For The Third Stimulus Check

The American Rescue Plan provides households with $1,400 for each adult, child and adult dependent, such as college students or elderly relatives.

The payments start declining for an individual once adjusted gross income exceeds $75,000 and go to zero once income hits $80,000. The payment starts declining for married couples when income exceeds $150,000 and goes to zero at $160,000.

Nearly 30 Million Social Security And Supplemental Security Income Beneficiaries Are Waiting For News About Their Payments

Im an 82-year-old elderly person living in Huntsville, Alabama, one woman wrote. I am disabled. I am requesting your assistance as I really need the money to assist me.

Like so many others who receive certain federal benefits, the writer isnt required to file a federal tax return. The IRS says it will automatically send Economic Impact Payments to people who didnt file a return but who receive Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits , Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income or Veterans Affairs benefits.

As with the first and second rounds of payments, beneficiaries of Social Security and other federal programs will generally receive this third payment the same way as their regular benefits.

One day after the American Rescue Plan was signed into law on March 11, the Treasury Department and the IRS started sending stimulus payments. In total, about 127 million payments worth $325 billion are being disbursed in the latest round of stimulus. The plan provides for payments of up to $1,400 for eligible individuals and $2,800 for couples filing a joint return. Dependents, regardless of age, also receive $1,400 each.

After hearing how fast payments are going out, federal beneficiaries are right to think, Great, I should get my money soon, too.

But many federal benefit recipients have heard nothing. No notice of a direct deposit. No information on when to expect a stimulus check or prepaid debit card.

How To Track Your Stimulus Check

Social Security And Stimulus Checks

The average Social Security beneficiary receives a check for around $1,500. While some retirees have access to a private retirement account, like a Roth IRA, a large portion rely solely on Social Security. This means that when a crisis like the pandemic hits, inflation and other economic impacts can take a devastating toll on their disposable income. Since beneficiaries over a certain age are not allowed to work and receive benefits, their income is fixed. Without government action, they can be left in a rather vulnerable position.

Over the last year, prices of basic goods have increased rapidly. Consumers have paid higher prices across the board as the economy reopened and supply chains destroyed by the pandemic were reconstructed.

Consumer Price Index rose 5.3 percent over the year ending August 2021 #BLSdata

BLS-Labor Statistics

Last month the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that over the previous year, the Consumer Price Index for all items index increased 5.3 percent before seasonal adjustment. For food, people are on average paying 3 percent more than they were a year ago, and for many other goods, the trends are just as worrisome.

Other Work Continues On Economic Impact Payments Watch Mail For Checks Eip Cards

In addition to work for federal benefit recipients, the IRS also continues to prepare and deliver additional Economic Impact Payments for other eligible individuals as well as deliver tax refunds.

For those receiving payments in the mail, the IRS urges these taxpayers to continue to watch their mail for these payments, which could include a paper Treasury check or a special prepaid debit card called an EIP Card.

Taxpayers should note that the form of payment for the third Economic Impact Payment, including for some Social Security and other federal beneficiaries, may be different than earlier stimulus payments. More people are receiving direct deposits, while those receiving payments in the mail may receive either a paper check or an EIP Card which may be different than how they received their previous Economic Impact Payments.

Some Federal Benefit Recipients Already Have Received An Economic Impact Payment

The IRS emphasizes that federal benefit recipients in these groups who file tax returns already started to receive Economic Impact Payments earlier this month, along with other taxpayers.

Because some federal benefit recipients do not file tax returns, the IRS did not have in its tax systems the current information needed to generate the Economic Impact Payments. Last year, the IRS took the unprecedented step to receive and review data from other federal agencies and use that data to deliver payments automatically to these recipients. This action which had never occurred in previous stimulus efforts minimized risk and burdens for the American public during the pandemic. Due to regular changes in the federal benefits population, the IRS needed to receive updated information this month from other government agencies. With these critical updates, eligible federal benefit recipients who dont normally file an income tax return will get a payment automatically in the next few weeks.

Making these automatic payments to federal beneficiaries involves a complex, multi-step process to handle recipient data from the other agencies. For the first round of Economic Impact Payments last year, recipients in these groups received payments within four to six weeks after the CARES Act was signed into law. For the American Rescue Plan signed March 11, the IRS projects that it is on track to deliver Economic Impact Payments to federal beneficiaries at the same or faster speed.

How Much Will I Get In My Second Stimulus Check If I Am Receiving Social Security Disability

Does social security, disability affect stimulus payment?

In December new stimulus payments in the amount of $600 were signed into law.

In December there was also a lot of talk by congress-people of $2,000 payments. But those are not happening, as of January 1, 2020 because the last Senate didnt vote on any bill to replace the $600 stimulus check with a $2,000 payment. A new Senate and House will be sworn in Jan. 3 so there is still a possibility that a third stimulus check will happen in early 2021.

When Is The Latest Round Of Stimulus Payments Expected For Ssi Ssdi Beneficiaries And Veterans

Federal beneficiaries who filed a 2019 or 2020 tax return or used the Non-Filers tool in 2020 may have already received a stimulus payment, or could get one in a future batch of checks being sent out by the government.

For most everyone else, payments started going out on April 7 by direct deposit or on your Direct Express card. For those receiving payments through the mail, those checks began on April 9. If you have a foreign address and don’t typically file a tax return, electronic payments went out around April 21 and paper checks on April 23. Veterans who don’t file taxes ordinarily should have received their payment on April 14.

The IRS and Treasury will use the information it has on file to automatically send you a check . People who have already filed a 2020 tax return this year to claim missing stimulus money may find that the IRS will use this information instead of your 2019 details if it has processed your latest return .

Fourth Stimulus Check Possible Timeline

Right now, there is no fourth stimulus check timeline or fourth stimulus check release date. Until legislation is in motion, we cant say how soon more relief money might arrive. We cant say whether more relief money is coming, at all.

That said, the third stimulus check timeline happened rather quickly following Bidens inauguration Jan. 20. It only took a few weeks for Congress to debate his American Rescue Plan. Once the president signed the bill on March 11, $1,400 checks were put in motion.

The IRS can begin sending out possible fourth stimulus checks in the same manner it sent the previous stimulus payments. Since the framework is already in place, Americans could begin receiving the fourth stimulus checks about two weeks after a relief bill allowing another round of direct payments is approved.
