Thank You For Your Service Veterans

Simple Etiquette Guidelines And Tips:

VETERANS DAY SPECIAL | THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

Are these lofty goals? Possibly. But, I do not think we can revisit enough the importance of recognizing our veterans. Anyone who is tired of hearing about it are most likely in need of a crash course in sacrifice. Spending just five minutes researching the staggering statistics of those serving, our veterans and the ultimate sacrifice many have paid to keep our freedom securely in place will recalibrate almost anyones thought process. Many may come to realize, as so many already do, that it is their place and their small part they can do, by always being thankful to our veterans and showing it in both words and deeds.

Military Veterans Share Their Stories At 2021

Jim Entz, PC Professor and Coordinator of the Cultural and Historical Awareness Program , brought the organization into its 20th year on campus with Wednesdays early afternoon event at the PC Theater.

Founded in 2002, CHAP has become a vital cultural institution of Porterville College. It exists to enhance awareness of important cultural aspects that are little known, and it uses panels, guest speakers, exhibits, and concerts to do so.

In honor of Veterans Day , the Wednesday panel included five veterans: Nicholas Oliva , Roland Hill , Cody Ridenour , Greg King , and Everette Morgan . The ages, experiences, and stories of the veterans ranged widely across the spectrum of military life. Branches included the Army, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

Their moving stories covered the spectrum of the human experiencegrief and trauma, but also humor and the matter-of-fact reality of learning to survive through months of combat and high stress situationsall in locations across the globe. A $68 million dollar drug bust in the Caribbean Sea with the Coast Guard, a massive C-130 plane engaging in a combat landing in Baghdad, Iraq , a door gunners experience on a helicopter in Vietnam, soldiers racing to get back to base in their planes before the gates were lockedthese were a few of the stories told.

Dont Confuse Veterans Day With Memorial Day:

There is quite a big difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day. It is important that you are able to distinguish the difference between the two as it could make both seem less important. On Veterans Day we celebrate and thank those who are currently serving in the military as well as those who have served in the past who are still living. Memorial day is a time to reflect and remember those who lost their lives.

Thank You For Your Service One Veterans Perspective

Veterans Day rolls around once a year, and Im appreciative of the recognition that comes with it. Not every veteran got to hear the words, Thank you for your service when they came home. Those words make me smile, but also trouble me a little bit. Heres why Im humbled, and perhaps a little embarrassed when I hear them, and why I sometimes think they are misdirected.

Why I Recommend Saying Thank You

I would like to send a clear message. In my view, regardless of a veterans era of service, branch of service, active or non-active status or deployment area of operation, etc., you should thank a veteran or service member for their service by specifically stating: thank you for your service.

In general, I recommend going over rather than under: acknowledging someones service rather than not doing so for fear of what the response might be. It is a blanket statement that can be applied to a large number of those who have served or who are currently serving in any capacity.

Many civilians and veterans alike have good intentions when they say the phrase thank you for your service. In most cases, it is highly likely that their intentions are to acknowledge the sacrifice and selfless service that many veterans and service members have made. Simply stating a phrase is one of the ways that they are choosing to honor the ones that they most likely see as allowing us to live the lifestyles that we do in a free land. Although America is not perfect, it strives to be.

Each year, as Veterans Day draws near, many people contact me and ask me what they could do for veterans. I have three recommendations:

  • Acknowledge Veterans for their service by saying a simple: Thank you for your service. Whether thats on Facebook, a text message, a phone call, a letter, or an in-person greeting, a basic acknowledgment can go a long way.

    Thank You Veteran Messages

Veterans, you make a monumental impact on our nation and lives. Thank you for defending us in the face of many dangers. We will never forget you nor what you gave for our sake. Happy Veterans Day!

Our current and future generations have you to thank for the freedoms we have and will have. It is a privilege to live in a place you worked so hard to preserve. Thank you for everything youve done for us, veterans!

I will be forever grateful for the responsibilities you undertake for our country. I wish you peace, success, and love. Thank you for your service. Happy Veterans Day.

There are parades, movies, books, and holidays devoted to our servicemen, but none of these things will fully compensate for the hardships and duties you had to endure for the sake of our freedom. Humbled by your courage, I want to thank you on this Veterans Day for serving in the military.

There are those who lead by declaration, but the best leaders in our society are those who lead by example. We can count on our servicemen to lead by doing what an ordinary person would never be able to do. Therefore, I thank you for being true leaders. Happy Veterans Day!

Not one of us can rest, be happy, be at home, be at peace with ourselves, until we end hatred and division. -John Lewis. Your service brings us a step closer towards peace. This Veterans Day, I thank you for laying down so much for our sake.

How To Say Thanks For Your Service To A Veteran Whos A Stranger Or Acquaintance

Thank You For Your Service (A Moment of Truth)

When considering ways to say thank youto a person that you don’t know too well, try to give it some context. By that, let them know that there’s some backstory to your words as opposed to the empty words that they hear.

    7. My family comes from a long military background, so I just wanted to say thank you for your sacrifice.

Heres a relatable way to express that youre familiar with the military and that youre also grateful for their service. If it sparks a conversation, thats even better.

    8. Sorry to interrupt, but my brother served in the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict, too. Can I buy that beer for you?

After you have discovered a connection, and you decide that buying a beer for someone is a great way to say thank you, offer to cover this round or the next.

    9. Shake their hand. Look them in the eye.

For some generations, a firm handshake and good eye contact, followed by a thank you is the most respectful way to show gratitude. You’ll probably want to ask if you can shake their hand first, though.

    10. Give them a day off on Veterans Day

If you have a dependable employee who’s also a veteran, consider giving them a paid day off to thank them this Veterans Day. After all, anyone who served 24/7, 365, and risked their life for their country deserves a few kickbacks, right?

    11. Nod your head

    83. To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the countrys service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations. President Woodrow Wilson

    84. Its about how we treat our veterans every single day of the year. Its about making sure they have the care they need and the benefits that theyve earned when they come home. Its about serving all of you as well as youve served the United States of America. President Barack Obama

We remember those who were called upon to give all a person can give, and we remember those who were prepared to make that sacrifice if it were demanded of them in the line of duty, though it never was. How To Say Thanks For Your Service In A Card Or Text

When you are absent from the military members circle on federal holidays, you may want to send a card or text that voices your gratitude. Here are a few ways to consider doing so.

    12. Youre my hero.

Has your brother or sister served their country? A short and sweet text will make their day assuming that they already know your thoughts and beliefs.

    13. I have my freedoms because of you.

Heres a message thats a little bit more formal and would work for an aunt or uncle who has served in the military.

    14. Your service made it possible for all of us to be the country we are today.

Even more formal, this message works well for any parent or grandparent on your list.

    15. Thinking of you today. What you gave was the ultimate show of friendship.

Whether youre an active duty service member or a buddy from back home, its nice to hear from people who believe in you.

    16. We miss you at home, but we know youre giving the ultimate sacrifice.

If your friend is deployed, any message from back home will give them comfort.

Veterans Thank You For Your Service

Through their service, they have been honed into warriors and possess a warrior spirit. A veterans experiences and their duty to protect our country can create challenges to finding the sometimes-elusive peace they seek, beyond those of the average citizen.

These words from Jenny Frank, manager of Veteran Services and Programs at Bakersfield College, have stuck with me this week as we celebrate and honor our nations veterans.

Veterans Day became a nationally observed holiday in 1938. It was first celebrated as Armistice Day in 1918 honoring the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month which was the end of World War I.

The federal holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans of all wars. It has become a day to honor the sacrifices they have made so that we all can enjoy the freedoms we have. Their courage and dedication are of indescribable importance to our nation, and no words can ever express how much that means.

I am left with a heartfelt but inadequate thank you, to all our veterans, for your service.

It was a wonderful week, celebrating our student veterans at all three of our campuses with various events honoring their service.

I finished my week with a great hike, enjoying the peaceful tranquility of a fall morning.

Be Grateful People Dont Have To Know

Some people in the world will likely never know a world without extreme violence.

In the places veterans went, extremists run amok in the country and seemingly no one can stop them. Civil war is a part of the lives of everyday people.

War lives on their doorsteps and theres no way for them NOT to know about it.

I am immensely grateful that we as the United States have the power and strength that we have that prevents this type of experience for most Americans. We are lucky that we are able to shield the overwhelming majority of our fellow citizens from these experiences. Im grateful that it was only a small portion of us that had to bear these burdens.

Im also grateful that not everyone HAS to serve. Say what you want about the potential benefits of mandatory service, not requiring people to serve in the military is indicative of our nations power and preference toward personal freedom.

Whats Wrong With Saying Thank You For Your Service

It is common nowadays to say to a veteran or service member, thank you for your service. This is a far cry from the way returning Vietnam vets were treated. Even so, some veterans bristle at this well-intended phrase.

I didnt understand why a post-9/11 vet would feel uneasy about my show of gratitude but after spending time at Veterans Breakfast Club events and now working for the VBC, Ive begun to understand the issue.

Imagine being a veteran in uniform and everywhere you go you hear the same thank you from numerous strangers. After a while, the repetition can lose its meaning. The service member may wonder, What do they really know about my service? What do they know about the military?

But if saying, thank you isnt quite right, how should civilians show gratitude to veterans who sacrifice for our country?

Ive asked some veterans what they would like to see civilians do to support them. Heres what they suggest:

    • Ask questions about their service. Dont say thank you and walk away.
    • Have a conversation about whats going on in the military today. There are many different websites that provide good information.
    • Vote and choose your elected officials carefully. After all, thats one of the freedoms our military protects.
    • Finally: serve others. Respect your fellow citizens and serve the community.
    • Make it so veterans can thank you for your service. That would help all of us be more worthy of their sacrifice.

How To Use Thank You Veterans Messages And Quotes

These short messages are perfect for sharing via text, email, or Social Media. A quick message to sent to a veteran or person on active duty can brighten their day and make them feel appreciated. It wouldnt take very much time to write a brief note or mail a card with a message to a veteran.

Other ideas would be making a contribution to a military charity in a veterans name, volunteering at a veterans organization, or you can even donate your frequent flier miles to charities that provide help to family members that want to visit a wounded warrior.

If you are in a position to do so, you could hire a veteran, or veterans spouse, bring in a veteran to speak to your company, or donate supplies to groups that are building or remodeling homes for veterans.

Whenever possible, you can frequent veteran-owned businesses or even add them to your companys supply chain. All of these are ways to thank veterans for their service and to recognize all they do for us on a daily basis.

We can never say thank you enough to all of our veterans.
