Benefits Of Direct Deposit For Retired Canadians And Seniors
Meet older Canadians who have benefitted from direct deposit, in Canada and abroad.
Start of clip.
When it comes to using new technology,
to make the most of their money, older Canadians can teach a thing or two to their younger fellow citizens
“Weâve been retired now for what? A little over nine years.”
Thatâs for sure. Nice wonderful years. Right from the start, we asked that the pension cheques be deposited directly into our bank account.
When we travel or if weâre sick, we donât have to worry, the money is being deposited automatically.
We donât have to walk to the community mailbox, get the cheque and then have to drive to the bank to deposit the cheque.
We donât have to worry about the money not being there, the cheques are deposited on a specific date so we always have the money to cover the withdrawals. It gives us a lot of free time to do whatever we like best for instance, in my case, I love gardening
And I have just more time to sit by the garden and enjoy what he has done.
About four years ago, my mom had a stroke and that was a very difficult time in our lives. I had to manage her doctorâs appointments, I had to manage her personal affairs and she couldnât organize her finances either anymore.
I didnât have to worry about losing any cheques and I knew right away that they would be there on the same day every month and it was so reliable for me.
That was one big thing that was off my list. It made my life really simple.

Va Introduces New Direct Deposit Options For Veterans Beneficiaries
WASHINGTON, December 17, 2019 The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs , in partnership with the Association of Military Banks of America , launched the Veterans Benefits Banking Program , available starting Dec. 20.
The program will provide Veterans and their beneficiaries the chance to safely, reliably, and inexpensively receive and manage their VA monetary benefits through financial services at participating banks.
VBBP offers another way to simplify banking choices to help eligible Veterans select the right bank for themselves and their families, said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. The VA and AMBA are proud to provide this opportunity to connect veterans with banks that understand their needs.
VAs collaboration with AMBA will leverage its consortium of military-friendly financial institutions that cater to service members. AMBA is the only trade association representing banking institutions specializing in providing services for military personnel, Veterans, and their families around the world. VBBP leverages participating AMBA institutions and banks operating within the gates of installations of all branches of service and National Guard and Reserve components.
The current available banking options include direct deposit into an existing bank account, electronic funds transfer into a Direct Express pre-paid debit card and mailing of a paper check for pre-approved beneficiaries. VBBP introduces new financial resources to Veterans and their beneficiaries.

Why Does The Us Treasury Require Electronic Federal Benefit Payments
Why did the government switch to electronic payments? There are four reasons:
Stolen checks or fraudulent claims have always been a problem for the governments massive programs. There are millions of people receiving government benefits checks each month. This can equate to millions of dollars in lost funds, even if just a small percentage of transactions are fraudulent or result in financial crime.
Offering recipients direct deposit or a prepaid debit card means recipients will have immediate access to their funds. They wont have to wait for the mail service to bring an envelope, then take a separate trip to a bank to cash or deposit the check. The money will be available on time, every month.
Easier Problem Resolution.
If a problem occurs with a check it is a lot harder to track down where the problem occurred with a paper check. Was it lost in the mail or is it just late in being delivered? With electronic payment, it will be a lot easier to track down any problems that do occur.
When the government sends out millions upon millions of benefit payment checks each year they have to print the check on paper, put it in a paper envelope, and pay postage on it. All of those things are cost overheads for running the program. With electronic payment, you still have some overhead, but youre not wasting money on ink, paper, and delivery.

My question is about changing direct deposit banks using E-Benefits for my disabil compensation pay can someone please provide some guidance on how long it takes to take effect? Since the VA takes so long to do claims/add dependents etc does it also take months and months for a direct deposit bank change to take effect if done with E-Benefits? What Happens When A Direct Deposit Goes To A Closed Account
Your direct deposit goes straight into your bank account , provided your account is still open. If your account is closed , the funds have nowhere to go, so the transaction will not be complete. Since the money will get sent back to your employers account , you should hear from them about a way to arrange repayment.
