When Doesthe Va Re
The VA may require medical re-examination ofthe veteran six months after leaving service, and then again between two andfive years later, in order that the VA can verify either the continuedexistence or the current severity of a disability. The VA will requirere-examinations in cases where it is likely that a disability has improved orif evidence indicates there has been a material change in a disability or thatthe current rating may be incorrect. If there is significant improvement to theveteran’s health, the VA may choose to re-evaluate the disability and thenassign a lower disability percentage rating and lower the amount of benefits.The VA may also determine that the disease or disability no longer exists, andthe benefits may be discontinued.

What Can I Do About My Va Medical Bills

If you are in school and going on VA Vocational Rehab your medical should be covered by the VA. If you are rated 50% or more by the VA your medical bills should be covered.
File A Claim For An Increased Rating
The disability rating VA assigns in its initial rating decision may be satisfactory at the time however, your condition may worsen years later. This is another way to increase your VA disability rating from 70% to 100%. If you are outside of the one-year period to file an appeal with VAs decision, you will likely have to file a new claim for an increased rating. You can submit any new documentation or evidence you have supporting that your service-connected condition has worsened.
VA will treat this as any other claim and issue a rating decision in response. In the legacy appeals system, the evidence must be new and material, whereas under AMA, it must be new and relevant. How Do Va Disability Ratings Work
The amount of money you receive from the Veterans Administration depends on your VA disability rating. If you are approved for VA benefits, the VA will assign you a disability rating. The severity of your impairment will determine the rating the Veterans Administration will assign you. Your service-connected mental conditions and physical conditions will receive a rating between 0-100 in increments of 10 percent.
All of your impairments will be added together using VA math to determine your disability rating. VA math is complicated and it doesnt make sense to a lot of veterans. Once an eligible veteran is granted service-connection for a disability due to the veterans service, the next logical question is, How much money will I receive? The amount of compensation benefits a veteran receives depends on the disability rating that the VA assigns.
Disability ratings range from 10% to 100%. The idea behind these ratings is that the veteran should be compensated according to the impairment that the disability would cause to the average persons ability to earn a living. This compensation generally comes as monthly payments.
It can be tricky to earn a 100% disability rating when a veteran has more than one disability. Combining two or more disabilities is a complicated process in which 50% plus 50% does not equal 100% but, rather, 75%. In fact, the closer a veteran gets to a 100% disability rating, the harder it seems to be to obtain one. For example, once a veteran is rated 80% disabled, each additional 10% disability only adds 2% to his total rating rather than an additional 10%.
Meeting the criteria for a 100% VA rating on the ratings schedule, or combining multiple disabilities to obtain a 100% rating, can be very difficult. Failure to meet those criteria, however, does not mean that a veteran is not totally disabled. For this reason, the VA regulations provide for an alternate route to a total disability ratingindividual unemployability.

Who Is Eligible And Time Periods
Children and spouses of veterans who are totally and permanently disabled are eligible for Dependents’ Educational Assistance. Spouses can generally use these benefits for 10 years from the date the VA deems them eligible. In some cases, spouses can use the benefits for 20 years. This happens when the veteran was rated permanently and totally disabled within three years after discharge from the service, and the 20-year-period begins running on the date the veteran received the disability rating.
Children are eligible for the benefits from the Dependents’ Educational Assistance program between 18 and 26 years old. Sometimes eligibility can begin before age 18 and continue past age 26. Children remain eligible for Dependents’ Educational Assistance even after they marry.
Children who are active service members in the military are not eligible to receive this benefit while on active duty. Once discharged, benefits are available as long as the discharge is not under dishonorable conditions. The period of eligibility for Educational Assistance will be extended by the amount of time spent on active duty, but this extension will usually not go beyond a child’s 31st birthday.
Specially Adapted Housing And Automobile Special Adaptive Equipment
Veterans who meet certain criteria may be eligible to receive VA grants for specially adapted housing and automobile adaptive equipment .
Specially Adapted Housing
SAH grants are awarded to veterans with certain permanent and total service-connected conditions. These grants can be used to:
- Build a specially adapted home on land to be acquired
- Construct a home on land already owned if it is suitable for SAH
- Remodel an existing home if it can be made suitable for SAH
- Use the grant against the unpaid principle mortgage balance of an adapted home already acquired
The SAH grant amount is set by law and may be adjusted based on the cost-of-construction index annually. As of 2019, the maximum amount allowable for SAH grants is $85,645.
Automobile Adaptive Equipment
AAE grants are reserved for veterans who have certain service-connected conditions and need special equipment to aid them in operating a vehicle. Such equipment includes, but is not limited to, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, and special equipment necessary to assist the veteran into and out of the vehicle. VA will pay the benefit to either the seller of the vehicle/equipment, or the veteran.

Tip #: Consider Secondary Service Connection & Aggravation
Even if a disability does not change their combined rating, veterans should always file claims and get as many conditions service-connected as reasonably possible. Veterans should consider that they can also establish service connection on a secondary basis. A secondary service-connected condition is one that resulted from a separate condition that is already service-connected. For example, a veteran is service-connected for a knee condition and later develops arthritis in that knee. Here, the veterans arthritis may warrant secondary service connection if it is the result of their service-connected knee condition. This may be helpful for both the schedular 100 percent disability rating, by increasing the veterans combined disability rating, and TDIU purposes.
Overall, veterans should make sure that they are considering all avenues of service connection and all of the ways in which they may be entitled to disability compensation.

On some Rating Decisions, there is a Permanent and Total box that will be checked.
