Can You Sell On Ebay While On Benefits

iirc you are ‘allowed’ an extra £20 per week before you have to declare it.Technically if it’s a big, one off sale you need to declare and you will lose the appropriate amount of benefit that week. But I wouldn’t bother. They take ages to sort anything like that out and if it’s a one it’s unlikely to take you over the £20 p/w if you divided it up over the year.If it’s a regular thing and for over £20 p/w then you need to declare it and they will advise you on TC and small business’ which is what you would be.

really more than £20 – wow thats such a small about to declare itso if you are just selling stuff that belongs to you that you no longer want you cant sell it ??? – thats madbut i could sell at a carboot and they would never know

but it’s £20 profit – you have to sell for more than you bought it for to start with

I’m no expert but have heard if its personal possessions you no longer need you are fine. Its when you start buying stuff with the intention of selling on that things get dodgy. How anyone could prove either way is beyond me though.

Yep, if they are your own personal possessions there are no tax implications – even if they were worth thousands such as a unique record/stamp collection.

You Cant Easily Set Up A Newsletter

How To Sell on Ebay

Youre not allowed to contact your customers except for the current transaction. That means I cant go back and email all my previous customers and ask them if theyd like to be on my mailing list for special offers and deals. You ARE allowed to message them during the current transaction, which is something I didnt know. I should have been doing that from the beginning, and building a mailing list that way. But now I cant do that. Etsy doesnt want you to leave the platform so they dont let you build a mailing list easily from your Etsy customers. Fair enough, but also a drawback.

Im in the process of setting up my own website because my etsy store has been buried by a combination of an algorithm change, the free shipping policy, and the pandemic. My sales have dropped to less than a quarter of what they used to be.

I have the skills to set up a wordpress website, but its a lot of work. And then theres building a social media presence and marketing the website in other ways. I wont be regaining that Etsy income any time soon via my own website.

But I dont have much choice, because the Etsy changes are entirely outside of my control, and I have to make an income somehow.

You have two choices of how to enter the income, depending whether or not you consider this a business.

If you enter the income on Schedule C, you may take expenses of sale as well and include your cost.

However, since this is probably not a business, you can enter it as other income. Follow these steps to do the second option.

I have bought things for very little and repaired them to great condition just using household items and viewing how-to videos on Youtube.

A friend wanted a leather sofa but he did not use the internet when I saw a great branded sofa with some cat claw marks on one arm I bought it for 1 cent the owners really just wanted it removing.

We managed to trim the leather down with a hair shaver then lightly sand it down and used shoe-polish to smooth out all the remaining marks. The result was amazing and sits pride of place in his house.

Why Technology Accessibility Is Key For Disability Inclusion At Work

10 Small Items You Can Sell on eBay for Profit

Technology, likevideo conferencing tools and online messaging systems, has gained prominence in workplaces across the country, especially during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as many businesses have switched to remote and hybrid models. In fact, more than half of U.S. workers rely on technology to complete their jobs. For workers with disabilities, tools for accessibility, like screen readers and subtitles for video meetings, are extremely important and necessary for workplaceinclusion.

2021 was a prominent year for DE& I efforts across businesses nationwide, as 77% of workers with disabilities say their employer has done a better job supporting them since the pandemic started. But there is still progress to be made, and technology accessibility is a great place to start.

For quadriplegic lawyer and community relations manager, Josh Basile, accommodations in tech have been “life-changing.”

“I was injured back in 2004. We didn’t have the technology and the scalable solutions that we have today to make the internet more accessible. And watching how our technology has advanced and evolved, I see more and more independence for myself,” he tells CNBC Make It. “Technology, like AI-powered applications on websites, gives me another way of being able to access the world around me and be included.”

Basile looks at it as a “domino effect.”

Do You Have To Pay Income Tax On Stuff Sold On Ebay

By: Gerlinda Grimes | Updated: Jan 27, 2022

Do you have to pay income tax on the stuff you sell on eBay? The answer is yes depending on how you ask the question.

If you ask, “Am I legally obligated to pay income tax if I make money selling things on eBay?” the answer is an unequivocal yes. IRS Fact Sheet #FS-2007-23, “Reporting Auction Income and the Tax Gap,” states, “all income from auctions, traditional or online, and consignment sales is generally taxable.” However, the IRS goes on to qualify that by stating, “Some people sell a product or service online as a hobby. This income generally must be reported” .

The IRS tries to make a clear distinction between individuals who sell on eBay only occasionally and hobbyists who sell on eBay more regularly. There is some gray area between the two, depending on how far you want to try and stretch the concept of an “occasional” seller. In some states or cities, eBay must collect internet sales tax from buyers and will list that amount on the Seller Hub Order details page. You don’t need to do anything further.

Starting in 2022, you’ll receive a 1099-K once you’ve sold $600, thanks to a provision in the recently enacted American Rescue Plan Act. So in 2023, you’ll have to account for your eBay sales on your federal income tax once they exceed $600 .

Disability Payment And Ebay Selling

Currently, I am receiving disability payments, am a father of 3 and wife works to cover insurance. We were homeless for a few years while this all went through and finally was approved last year. Got a house which is smaller then what we had before all of this. We decided to start to sell off majority of belongings we no longer needed or want and made a bit of money on ebay doing so. Keep in mind, money had been paid for the items we sold a while ago or even recently so the total amount made is not all a profit. How is this going to affect my disability benefits? Please if someone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Not sure what to do now and dont want to end up owing the government money we do not have. Thanks greatly for any response

We are not experts in this area, but here are a couple comments which may be helpful.

First, PayPal has started to send 1099-K statements to those folks who have more than $20,000 in gross receipts and who have more than 200 transactions in a year. So if you receive a 1099-K or any other similar 1099 from eBay or other source, this is also reported to the government and you may have some explaining to do if you’re on disability.

Second, Social Security has a notion of “Substantial Gainful Activity” which may come into play in the case of eBay selling. In such case, the eBay sales may be construed as self-employment income. If you had average monthly earnings over the SGA level this may impact your disability payments.

Selling possessions which you already own and were not bought for the purpose of resale should not count as income from employment for purposes of unemployment compensation–only income from work or business counts against you for unemployment compensation purposes . If you purchase items to resell them, including “informally” at a yard or tag sale or flea market, however, then you are engaged in a business and the income would be counted against you.
