Pasco County Debuts Its New Splash Pad To Beat The Summer Heat
- Barbara BehrendtTimes staff
HUDSON Pasco County officials and community partners gathered last month to cut the ribbon and officially open their new water cycle splash pad at Veterans Memorial Park, at 14333 Hicks Road.
The park is a community effort spearheaded by the Investigation Station, a non-profit organization that provides interactive educational exhibits. Lisa Campos, the groups director, said in the video about the splash pad ribbon cutting that the group provides a traveling childrens museum. In this case, the attraction has features demonstrating the water cycle, including precipitation, condensation and evaporation.
In addition to the Investigation Station, the splash pad also received financial assistance from the Hudson Rotary Club and a number of local businesses.
Pasco County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources provided the land for the splash pad, the sidewalks connecting it to the park and one of the water features. The county also plans to add benches and will manage the facility.
The splash pad operates with the push of a button, which turns on all of the water features for 20 minutes. Summer season hours are 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information about the splash pad rules, visit: bit.ly/3oMPygn.

Splash Pad Gives Hudson Families Much
HUDSON, Fla. Kids in Hudson were jumping for joy this morning at the opening of a brand new splash pad.
We were up at 7:30 just waiting. Im like we have to be the first people,” said Kelsie LeMieus.
LeMieus brought her kids to the new attraction at Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson.
This is an area of Pasco County with many lower-income families and they do not have a lot of options for free things to do.
These kids are so excited and I cant wait. This is obviously just the best thing thats happened in Hudson in a very long time,” said LeMieus.
Lisa Campos is with Investigation Station, a nonprofit that helped put this project together.
We choose the Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson because it is in a lower socioeconomic part of the county. There is a pool here but it costs money to go in the pool. Costs money for swimming lessons. Splash pad is free and you dont know how to swim,” said Campos.
While Pasco County contributed about $20,000, the splash pad cost $400,000. The rest came from donations of time and resources from local businesses.
Bayonet Plumping Heating and Air Conditioning did all the plumbing.
Something that is as meaningful as this. A project such as this means so much to a community and to children and to families its important to be a part of. And it means a lot,” said Darrell Arft.
Soon theyll be a mural at the park to show kids how the water cycle works.
But in the meantime, the splash pad is open, just in time for another hot Florida summer.
