Opened in February 1996, the Veterans Home of California Barstow has the capability to care for 400 elderly or disabled California veterans in two levels of care: Domiciliary and Intermediate Care. Residents of VHC Barstow requiring skilled nursing care would have first priority for admission to these services at either the Chula Vista or Yountville Veterans Homes. Acute hospital care is provided at either the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Loma Linda for those veterans eligible for VA care or at the Barstow Community Hospital. Primary medical care is provided to domiciliary residents at the on-site clinic. For intermediate care residents, contract physicians who visit the home regularly provide this care.
