The Va Travel Portal For Vts
Veterans who are eligible for VA health care benefits and have a VA-authorized appointment are automatically eligible for transportation through the VTS program. You can use our self-service portal to request a ride to your appointment. With this Portal you will have the ability to track your drivers location and estimated pickup time. You can use a computer, android device or an Apple product.
For those who would like to schedule a ride with VTS they can go to the VA VetRide Travel Portal at 24 hours a day. This website provides a safe and reliable transportation portal to all Veterans requiring assistance traveling to and from VA health care facility and . This program offers these services at little or no cost to eligible Veterans.
Eligibility & Priority For Transportation
VTS resources will be allocated using the following criteria, which are to be assessed in the context of the totality of the circumstances, so that no one factor is determinative:
The eligible persons basis for eligibility. Enrolled Veterans will receive first priority, followed in order by non-enrolled Veterans servicemembers family caregivers persons receiving counseling, training, or mental health services under 38 U.S.C. 1782 and 38 CFR 71.50 CITI beneficiaries and guests. Persons eligible under more than one designation will be considered in the highest priority category for which that trip permits.
What You Need To Know
- All Reservations are required and scheduled based on need.
- Reserve your ride as soon as you make your medical appointment and no later than three business days prior to the appointment.
- VetRide is a ride share type of program…be prepared to share the ride with other Veterans as we strive to support as many customers as resources will allow.
- Your scheduled pick-up time may be considerably earlier than requested in order to accommodate other Veterans being served.
- Vehicles will travel in several directions during your trip and make stops to serve other Veterans.
- Travel time will vary based on trip distance, traffic conditions and other Veterans being served.
- Please be ready to leave 15-minutes prior to your scheduled pick-up time.
- Veterans are advised to bring sufficient medications and drinks/snacks as may be needed throughout the day as they wait for the other Veterans to complete their medical care appointments and present for their return trip.
- As VTS serves more than one customer on each trip, Veterans failing to present at the designated/agreed upon pickup time for their return trip are responsible for arranging their own transportation home.

Volunteer Drivers Needed To Give Rides To Disabled Veterans
WATERTOWN, New York – For decades, disabled veterans have gotten free rides to medical appointments through the Disabled American Veterans Transportation Network.
Now the organization needs more volunteer drivers.
Joseph Brancato serves as the Watertown coordinator of the DAVs Volunteer Transportation Network, having served in the Air Force during the Vietnam war.
Now he has dedicated himself to a different type of service
Most of these veterans served our country. Theyre in a situation now where one way or another they cant get themselves to their appointments. Anybody that can help out is greatly appreciated, he said.
One veteran using the service cant drive to his appointments. He thanks the DAV Volunteer Transportation Network for helping his health and wallet.
So it helps me get to appointments that would usually cost me about $10-$20 to get to if I went with a 3rd party like a taxi or Uber. It also helps me get to appointments that I wouldnt be able to afford, said Alexander Wiseman, a disabled veteran.
In Watertown, the DAV has plenty of cars. What they dont have is enough drivers.
Brancato says hed like to get at least 5 more. In places like Lewis County, they hardly have anyone.
And whatever they cant pick up, Ive been filling in myself. Its getting taxing, he said.
It settles me good to really look at these people and say I helped. I gave them a ride, he said.

Highly Rural Transportation Grants
Highly Rural Transportation Grants provides grants to Veteran Service Organizations and State Veteran Service Agencies. The grantees provide transportation services to Veterans seeking VA and Non-VA approved care in highly rural areas. These grants are available in counties that have fewer than seven people per square mile.
Rural Veterans Transportation Program
The New Mexico Department of Veterans Services has launched the Rural Veterans Transportation Program to service medical transportation needs for veterans in following counties: Catron, Cibola, Colfax, De Baca, Guadalupe, Harding, Hidalgo, Lincoln, Mora, Quay, San Miguel, Sierra, Socorro, Torrance and Union counties.
Round-trip rides will also be provided to veterans for any VA preauthorized appointments at non-VA health care facilities.
Veterans must make a reservation for these free round trip rides at least three days in advance of a medical appointment by calling DVS at Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm.
Upon pickup, veterans will be required to show proof of veteran status to the driverwho, per COVID-19 safety protocol, will be wearing a mask. Veterans will also be required to wear a face mask for the duration of the trip.
The program is made possible through a grant awarded to DVS by the U.S. Department of VeteransAffairs Highly Rural Transportation Grants Program. This grant is awarded to qualified organizationsthat can demonstrate the need and ability to provide transportation for veterans in highly rural areaswho have trouble getting VA health care due to the lack of available transportation options.

Subsidised Domestic Medical Travel For Us Veterans
The Office of Veterans Affairs in the USA has said it will subsidise travel for VA medical appointments, including from St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John to Puerto Rico.
Eligible USA veterans can access medical care at any Veterans Affairs medical facility in the USA or its territories.
What makes the difference is who pays for the veterans travel arrangements to that facility.
Through the Code of Federal Regulations, veterans are mandated to seek medical care at the VA medical facility closest to their residence if the VA is expected to pay for travel to that facility.
In the case of the Virgin Islands, there is an outpatient clinic on St. Thomas and one on St. Croix however, the closest VA Medical Centre is on Puerto Rico.
For a very long time, veterans in the Virgin Islands have expressed an interest in being able to travel to the mainland to attend VA medical appointments. To address these concerns, the Office of Veterans Affairs will be subsidising the plane ticket of any veteran seeking to attend VA Medical appointments on the mainland. Veterans will be allowed a subsidy for no more than three trips per fiscal year at a rate of up to US$250 per trip. Veterans wishing to take advantage of this benefit must first contact the V.I. Office of Veterans Affairs for pre-approval. Any request made after travel may not be approved.

Veterans who are eligible for VA health care benefits and have a VA-authorized appointment are eligible for transportation through the VTS program based on the availability and guidelines in place at their local facility. Each local VA authorized facility has ridership guidelines based on their capabilities.
