Since its founding more than 80 years ago, the Disabled American Veterans has been dedicated to a single purpose: building better lives for Americas disabled veterans and their families. Fidelity to that mission has required DAV to respond creatively and flexibly to changing and sometimes unpredictable problems faced by its constituency. Whether disabled veterans have needed a voice on Capitol Hill, a nationwide service program, a transportation network or unique rehabilitation opportunities, DAV has focused its attention and resources to meet those needs.
With our brave Americans leaving the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the DAVs services and advocacy are as relevant and critical today as in any time in our nations history. Annually, the DAV represents more than 200,000 veterans and their dependents with claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. The DAVs Voluntary Services Program operates a comprehensive network of volunteers who provide veterans free rides to and from VA medical facilities and improve care and morale for sick and disabled veterans. The DAVs 1.2 million members provide grassroots advocacy and services in communities nationwide. From educating lawmakers and the public about important issues to supporting services and legislation that helps disabled veterans the DAV is there to promote its message of hope to all who have served and sacrificed.

With our 2 locations in Wichita, DAV Thrift Stores, is there to meet your shopping needs. We offer a unique selection of affordable and gently-used items for sale with the profits being donated to the Disabled American Veterans.
How do we do it? With help from caring people like you! If you are downsizing, getting new furniture, or simply ready to de-clutter, give us a call at 316.262.7440. We can pick up your gently used furniture, clothing, or household items to re-sale in our stores, and with every donation you are helping a Disabled American Veteran. Tax deductible donations are also accepted daily at each location until an hour before closing.

Stop by our store on Monday-Saturday from 8AM to 7PM and speak to one of our helpful cashiers. If assistance is needed, they will be more than happy to help you unload your donation. If assistance is not needed, simply bring your donation to the counter.

Pickup: For free pickup service, contact us at 386-3002 on Monday-Friday from 8AM to 3PM to speak with one of our friendly pickup-service representatives or email us at info@davquadcities.com. We will gladly help you schedule a pickup that is convenient for you.

We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them fighting for the interests of Americas injured heroes on Capitol Hill and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.
- Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies of government.
- Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families specifically.
- Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government.
- Extending DAVs mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters.

A Memorial In The Spelling
Sometimes a misspelling is an error, and sometimes it is on purpose and at least once, its both.Consider the Disabled American Veterans store, 730 N. Fifth Street. A reader wrote this past week: I drive past the Disabled Am. Vet store weekly, and as a newcomer to Prescott I have a question about their signs. Both their store, sign on the fence and truck say Trift I assume the word to be Thrift but it is missing the H.Is there a reason the word Thrift is misspelled? I checked the dictionary and cannot find the word Trift? Thanks in advance for your response.The local DAV officials told me that a disabled veteran, M. Seidel, painted the signs shortly before he died of a brain tumor.They are not clear on how long ago he did this the stores current managers have been here three and five years and it pre-dates them. Also, The Daily Courier published a letter to the editor in 2003 stating the same reasoning.
To wit, they attribute the misspelling to Mr. Seidels impairment. The Prescott DAV Chapter 16 decided to retain the TRIFT STORE spelling in his honor, according to the 2003 letter and a press release from the store. We operate the only TRIFT STORE in the country.
Thats very admirable. The manager told me this past week that Seidel thought he spelled it correctly, and we decided to honor and memorialize that.

The DAV Thrift Stores in the Houston area are a project of the DAV Department of Texas. Your donations of usable clothing and household items help support the activities of the DAV in the Houston metropolitan area. Clothing and other needed items are provided by referral to veterans in need at no charge. Money generated by the stores help fund DAV projects in the state of Texas.
