Check Your Bank Account
If you gave the SSA direct deposit information and you were approved for disability, you may see a deposit from the U.S. Treasury in your bank account before you receive a letter in the mail.

What Your Cpp Disability Application Status Means
In progress probably means that your application has been assigned to a medical adjudicator. Unfortunately, there is no real indication of how long it might take from there. For some people, simply seeing that their application has arrived on someones desk is a weight off their shoulders.
Completed means that a decision has been made. You still have to wait to receive the result in a letter, through the mail.

Check The Status Of Your Claim Online
The Social Security Administration offers a convenient online method to check the status of a Social Security disability claim with a free âmy Social Securityâ account. Setting up an account is quick and easy and can be done by going to the SSA website, clicking on the âcreate an accountâ button, and following the simple instructions.
Some of the information available by using your âmy Social Securityâ account includes the following:
- Application filing date.
- Current location of the claim.
- Location of the field office handling the claim.
- Hearing date, time, and location for an appeal.
The account can be used after you have been approved for benefits to access information about payments, Medicare and Medicaid.
Ways To Check The Status Of Your Application
There are two ways to check the status of your Social Security Disability application:
- You can check the status of your application online at the SSA website. It takes a minute or so to locate a particular file, but this is the most convenient and fastest way to find out the status of your application. You’ll need to create a “my Social Security” account online, which should take only a short time.
- You contact the SSA by phone and speak with a representative. They will be able to let you know when your application was turned over to your local Disability Determination Services office. Since these offices process your application, talking to one of their representatives will provide you with detailed information regarding the status of your claim.

What Happens When Your Disability Claim Is Approved
If your application is approved , your first Social Security benefit will be paid for the sixth full month after the date we find that your disability began. For example, if your disability began on June 15, 2018, your first benefit would be paid for the month of December 2018, the sixth full month of disability .

Once the initial 30-day time period has passed, youll likely be wondering who to call, and how often. Of course, you can always contact your attorney regarding the status of your claim. This is always an option, and your attorney should be able to check in on your claim and advise you as to its progress. Additionally, you can:
1). Call your local Social Security office: Calling your local Social Security office and speaking to a disability claims representative regarding the status of your claim can always be helpful. Usually, a claims representative can provide a general update on the status of your claim. Generally, however, they will not be able to provide a great deal of detail on when a decision will be issued, or whether any particular obstacles are delaying your claim.
2). Check the status of your claim online: If you have a My Social Security account, you can check the status of your claim at https://secure.ssa.gov/RIL/SiView.do. If you havent created an account, doing so is fairly quick and easy. As is the case with contacting a representative by phone, when you check the status of your claim online you will be able to find general information on the status of your claim but not typically not specific details as to the date a decision will be issued, or any specific issues with the claim itself.
Key Information May Be Missing Or Incomplete On Your Application
An incomplete or incorrect Social Security disability benefits application cannot be properly reviewed and processed by the SSA, so it is important to check your claim to see if this is an issue. A claims examiner at the SSA will only be able to give you a general update on your claim status, so contact the disability examiner assigned to your case directly at the Disability Determination Services agency.
The disability examiner can provide you with information about whether your application was completed properly. If the disability examiner informs you that your application has not been completed properly and that your claim is being denied because of it, file a Request for Reconsideration form, and provide any information that was missing from your original application.

Adults Disabled Before Age 22
An adult who has a disability that began before age 22 may be eligible for benefits if a parent is deceased or starts receiving retirement or disability benefits. We consider this a âchildâsâ benefit because it is paid on a parentâs Social Security earnings record.
The disabled âadult childâ including an adopted child, or, in some cases, a stepchild, grandchild, or step grandchild must be unmarried, age 18 or older, have a disability that started before age 22, and meet the definition of disability for adults.
It is not necessary that the disabled âadult childâ ever worked. Benefits are paid based on the parentâs earnings record.
- A disabled âadult childâ must not have substantial earnings. The amount of earnings we consider âsubstantialâ increases each year. In 2021, this means working and earning more than $1,310 a month.

How Long Does It Usually Take To Process Cpp Disability Applications
There is no way to know for sure how long it will take for your CPP disability application to be processed. Earlier this year, Service Canada estimated that a decision on CPP disability applications would take four months, or 120 days, to reach. Lots of people still think this is the case however, the website currently says that the approximate processing time is 170 days. This is between 5-6 months quite a bit longer than the estimate at the beginning of the year!
This 170-day estimate means that from the time Service Canada has your CPP disability application and all the necessary medical documentation, it should take around 170 days to process. This is not a guarantee of anything, however.
Delays can happen for a number of reasons, causing your CPP disability application to take longer than 170 days. Here are some of the possible reasons for a delay:
- the volume of applications received, especially if you live in a more populous area
- staffing issues
- human error
- more information or documents needed from your doctors.
