The Mid-America Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America was formed in 1979 as the Sooner Chapter to help better serve our Veterans in Oklahoma. As our membership grew in Kansas and Arkansas, the Chapter made the name change in the mid 1980s. We strive to serve our Mission Statements to all Veterans as we expand our programs.

The Paralyzed Veterans of America, Buckeye Chapter is one of 32 chapters of the Washington D.C. based Paralyzed Veterans of America . As a Congressionally chartered Veterans service organization not an agency of the federal government, the BPVA has been assisting Veterans with spinal cord injuries or disease, including Multiple Sclerosis and ALS in Ohio since 1972.

Paralyzed Veterans Of America

Description

The Paralyzed Veterans of America is a voluntary, non-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of its members — all of whom have catastrophic paralysis caused by spinal cord injury or disease. Established in 1946, PVA has been in the forefront of improving health care, rehabilitation, and access to society for paralyzed veterans and all citizens with a disability. PVA’s Research and Education Program has funded a wide range of educational materials and videotapes for people with disabilities, their families, the general public, and professionals in the field of spinal cord dysfunction. PVA consists of 16,000 members and 54 chapters and also has 59 service offices nationwide that serve the needs of all veterans seeking Department of Veteran Affairs claims and benefits. PVA’s national advocacy program focuses on obtaining full Civil Rights for those with a disability. In addition, the organization funds the National Spinal Cord Hotline .

Paralyzed Veterans Of America Pickup Service

Paralyzed Veterans of America Fundraiser 5k

This is an excellent way to get involved with the charity. PVA’s pickup service allows you to donate clothes, furniture, household items, and shoes. These items must be in solid working condition and reusable.

As the donor, you schedule your pickup with the service. PVA will then respond to you via phone call or postcard to notify you of the arrival day. When that day arrives, place your bagged or boxed items on the curb by 7:00 am.

Please ensure that you mark all boxes or bags as PVA so the driver knows which house to stop by. Also, note that the driver retains the right to reject any piece if he does not find it to be in good condition.

If your donation is accepted, however, you will receive a card that reads “Thank You For Donating” confirming your pickup.

Paralyzed Veterans Of America Rating

Paralyzed Veterans of America came into being in 1946, just after World War II. In that time, it has been subject to a great deal of observation and rankings.

This is understandable people have tremendous respect for our veterans and want to ensure they’re treated with the respect they deserve.

Paralyzed Veterans of America has performed well in several ratings. As recently as 2019, Impact Matters ranked the charity as one of the Top 5 Veterans Nonprofits in the country. GuideStar has also given the nonprofit a Gold Star rating.

Paralyzed Veterans Of America Awareness Month

Nobody sacrifices more for our nation than our veterans they give their time, their abilities, and sometimes their lives for the sake of others.

One possible result of such sacrifice is paralysis. Paralyzed veterans may have issues finding work, struggle to help their families make ends meet, and a loss of the confidence they once held.

To help with this, the charity Paralyzed Veterans of America came together to help veterans work through their post-combat challenges. They are a phenomenal charity aiming to serve our best and bravest.

Paralyzed Veterans Of America Locations

PVA has a total of 34 chapters and 73 National Service Offices. Paralyzed veterans can call any of those offices to join any chapter, regardless of their location.

Paralyzed Veterans of America does, however, have services that can only be found in certain locations. Their Veterans Career Program, for example, operates out of Atlanta, Minneapolis, Long Beach, Washington, D.C., Richmond, Philadelphia, San Antonio, and San Diego.

However, PVA also has digital initiatives such as Veterans Career Live that members can join across the country.

Improving The Lives Of Veterans With Disabilities

“Thank you for visiting the Paralyzed Veterans of America Florida Chapter website. PVAF was chartered by the Circuit Court of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in Dade County, Florida, on September 13, 1956. We achieved status as a non-profit corporation under the authorized statutes of the State of Florida.

As President, I am responsible for functional supervision and delegation of authority to create, maintain and improve PVAF’s programs to serve U.S. Veterans with disabilities resulting from spinal cord injuries or spinal cord dysfunction. We also serve as an advocate for non-veterans with severe disabilities, as many of these people have the same special needs as disabled veterans. Our programs are health care, legislation, advocacy, fundraising, research and education, and sports for the disabled. Our primary focus is health care for veterans who qualify for regular membership in PVAF. I believe this has always been an issue at the forefront and will remain so as the years pass.

As always, we encourage those that can make donations to PVAF to do so. We are proud of our role as advocates, and we want to continue this tradition since hospitalized veterans are limited in the roles they can play in our quest to honor them.

About The Paralyzed Veterans Of America California Chapter

For 70 years, Paralyzed Veterans of America has been on a mission to change lives and build brighter futures for our seriously injured heroesto empower these brave men and women with what they need to achieve the things they fought for: freedom and independence.

The organization was founded by a band of service members who came home from World War II with a spinal cord injury. These service members returned to a grateful nation, but also to a world with few solutions to the challenges they now faced. They made a decision not just to live, but to live with dignity as contributors to society. They created Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization dedicated to veterans service, medical research and civil rights for people with disabilities. Today, the work continues to create an America where all veterans and people with disabilities, and their families, have everything they need to live full and productive lives.

Paralyzed Veterans of America California is one of the first 5 original chapters of PVA. Our chapter of approximately 700 members covers roughly 40 states throughout our nation. We are based in Long Beach CA, and serve the special needs of our members veterans of the armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction. The Iowa Paralyzed Veterans of American is a non-profit organization and is one of 33 chapters which represents our national organization, Paralyzed Veterans of America. Our membership is free and consists of veterans of the United States Armed Forces who have suffered a spinal cord injury or received a diagnosis of disease affecting the spinal cord.

Medical Services And Health Policy

PVAs medical services team strives to ensure the Department of Veterans Affairs is implementing best practices to improve quality of care in VA Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Centers across the country. During annual site visits to VA SCI/D and long-term care centers, PVA inspects facilities, confers with staff, ensures problems have been corrected, and speaks directly to patients about their needs. PVAs site visit team is composed of physicians, nurses, staff, architects, and a field advisory committee who are paralyzed veterans themselves.

PVAs medical services department also operates a SCI/D hotline and develops consumer and clinical practice guidelines widely considered to set the standard of care.
