To be over 90 years old as of September 2021, one would have to be born in 1931. The Second World War broke out in September 1939 and lasted until September 1945. Conscription was introduced in Britain for men aged between 18 and 41, however many soldiers lied about their age and some as young as 16 years old fought.
To be 18 years old at the outbreak of the war, one would have to be born in 1921, making them over 100 years old if currently alive. However, one could also be 18 and conscripted to serve in 1944, meaning theyd be born in 1926. It is likely, then, that thousands of the 90+ generation in Britain currently alive served in the Second World War.

How Many World War Ii Veterans Live In California
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. The number of veterans living in any community can be a difficult number to pin down. Sometimes we only learn of someone’s service to this country after they have passed away.
Periodic surveys attempt to provide a rough estimate of those service members nationwide. The Census Bureau estimates that about half a million World War II veterans are still with us, but by the year 2030 that number will drop to about 8,000.
California has nearly 54,000 WWII vets with seven percent of the over 85 population having served in the ‘war to end all wars.’
In a survey by Slacker posted on Wednesday, Kern County is ranked 37th in California with more than 31,000 veterans. That represents five percent of Kern’s population.
The number of World War II servicemembers is now 1,001, with nearly 3,000 from Korea. Vietnam and the Gulf War represent the largest group with more than 27,000 vets.
There are more than 1.5 million veterans in California.
Williams Was One Of 473 Americans To Earn A Medal Of Honour
Millions of American soldiers served in the armed forces throughout the duration of the Second World War, but only a few hundred were commended for their valiant efforts.
According to the National WW2 Museum of New Orleans, there were 473 recipients of a Medal of Honour for their service. It is described on the website as the Nations highest military award for valor is given for action above and beyond the call of duty.
The Medal of Honour was first authorised in 1861, and to date, 3,525 Medals of Honour have been bestowed to American servicemen and women. It is sometimes referred to as a Congressional Medal of Honour given that the President is required to present, in the name of the Congress, the recipient their medal.
Many WW2 recipients were granted the Medal of Honour posthumously. The most recent medal awarded to a WW2 veteran was to US Army First Lieutenant Garlin Conner. Conner had previously received a Distinguished Service Cross, although this was upgraded to a Medal of Honour by former President Donald Trump in 2018. His widow, Pauline Conner, accepted the Medal on his behalf.

When Will Americas Last World War Ii Veterans Pass Away
75 years on from the end of the Second World War in Europe, approximately 325,000 of the 16 million Americans who served during the conflict are still alive on Memorial Day 2020. Their ranks are continuing to steadily decline, however, and the vast majority of those alive in 2020 are in their 90s while some are considerably older. Back in 2015, 939,000 U.S. WWII veterans were still alive and the number of stories and memories being lost daily is accelerating. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the Department of Veterans Affairs calculated that 245 WWII veterans were expected to be lost every day between September 30, 2019 and September 30, 2020.
That raises a sad and depressing question: when will America lose its last World War II veterans? The VA used a deterministic actuarial projection model to forecast the number of living veterans up to 2045 and the following infographic is based on its findings. It shows that their ranks will fall further to just under 60,000 in five years with the very last U.S. WWII veteran expected to pass away in 2043. Unfortunately, the figures could well be impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. According to The New York Times, COVID-19 has spread in more than 40 veterans homes in more than 20 states, leading to the deaths of at least 300 people.

It has been roughly 83 years since the start of WWII. During those tumultuous years, the US sent out 16 million brave soldiers on the battlefield to fight against the fascist regime. Of the 16 million, 291,557 soldiers were slain during battle. Their sacrifices are felt mainly throughout the world as we all indulge and celebrate what they fought for.
For the most part, the support that the US soldiers got from the government was at times lackluster. Veterans suffered greatly from unemployment, homelessness, physical handicaps, and mental health issues after the war. With how much they bravely fought for the country, the country was not determined enough to help a lot of them after the war.

In World War 2, 16 million Americans served in the armed forces and according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, less than 240,329 U.S. World War 2 veterans were still alive as of 2021. Thats only around 3% and as their age increases, their death rate has continued to increase as well, with an estimated 294 World War 2 veteran deaths per day.
Another statistic from the National World War II Museum in New Orleans states that the number of World War 2 veterans still alive today dwindled to only 180,292 as of 2022.
Do the math and that means in less than three years, well only have less than 100,000 World War 2 veterans remaining and wed be lucky if any make it through the end of the decade. Following Overtons death, Lawrence Brooks is now thought to be the oldest surviving World War 2 veteran at 110 years old, but the final days of World War 2 veterans are fast-approaching. So, we must do our best to ensure their legacies remain.

Or 98-year-old Rufus Spain, whose ship landed at Omaha Beach in France three weeks after D-Day, who taught at Baylor University for almost 60 years and who shot his age in golf for the first of 450 times when he was 75. He actually shot a 73, but he does not want it to seem like he is bragging.
Spain was part of a transportation battalion and spent three years in England and France during the war. He wrote more than 300 letters to his parents while he was gone, and his mother saved every one of them.
Realizing the importance of preserving that era, which spawned a tremendous period of growth and societal changes in the United States, Spain, a history professor, has compiled those letters into a book titled Letters Home.
