One private organization called the Veterans Support Foundation provides grants supporting veteran related projects including matching fund projects for scientific, charitable, and educational purposes.
Other grants may not be specifically aimed at veterans but can be used by them to get funding for qualifying activities. One such program has been offered by the U.S. Department of Energy is the Small Business Innovation Research Grant.

- You have a qualifying service-connected disability

- Set realistic goals for yourself
- Break up large tasks into small ones, set some priorities, and do what you can as you can
- Try to spend time with other people, and confide in a trusted friend or relative. Tell others about things that may trigger symptoms.
- Expect your symptoms to improve gradually, not immediately
- Identify and seek out comforting situations, places, and people
Caring for yourself and others is especially important when large numbers of people are exposed to traumatic events .

Encourage Veterans To Join A Support Group
Even with a larger understanding of PTSD and how it impacts veterans, it may be difficult communicating with former service members about their mental health. Support groups can help veterans by providing them with a community of colleagues who have had similar experiences.
A health-related support group may fill a gap between medical treatment and the need for emotional support. A persons relationship with a doctor or other medical personnel may not provide adequate emotional support, and a persons family and friends may not understand the impact of a disease or treatment, according to an article from the Mayo Clinic. A support group among people with shared experiences may function as a bridge between medical and emotional needs.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, or VA, provides a helpful resource on how to start a support group for veterans. The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion offer directories and resources to help access support groups for certain health afflictions. Additionally, veterans can also join digital communities on platforms including Facebook, where they can share experiences with other veterans across the world who may be suffering from similar illnesses.
The Specially Adapted Housing Grants
A soldiers life is changed permanently once deployed, particularly for disabled war veterans. A service member returning from deployment with a significant or permanent injury sustained during service will face many challenges adjusting to civilian life.
The US armys service members and veterans can receive a grant for specially adapted housing . This grant allows them to live a stress-free, liberating lifestyle. War veterans can have a way to live independently that might not be possible elsewhere.
This grant has a maximum amount of $100,896 at the moment. The maximum grant amount money is subject to adjustment each year. SAH entitles servicemembers and veterans having total and permanent disabilities as a result of:
- Loss or damage to both of the lower extremities like precluding locomotion without having the aid of crutches, braces, wheelchair or canes.
- Blind with both eyes with light perception only in addition to the usability of a lower extremity.
- Loss or damage to a lower extremity along with organic injury/disease residuals or loss or damage to an upper extremity affecting propulsion/balance functions for precluding locomotion without having the aid of wheelchair, braces, canes or crutches.
- Loss or damage to two upper extremities that preclude the arms use or are above the elbow.
- A severe injury caused by a burn

Activities such as fly-tying help participants improve their hand-eye coordination, adaptive muscle memory, and balance, all while improving cognitive focus and helping participants cope with stress-related issues brought on by wounds of war. PHWFF offers a community where individuals with similar experiences and disabilities can engage with one another, building lifelong relationships and learning a new sport that encourages healthy outdoor activities. This NFL-BWF Healthy Lifestyles and Creating Community grant will provide 1300 veterans across 130 program locations with tools and materials to participate in virtual fly-tying workshops alongside veterans in their community maintaining social connections while being physically distanced during COVID-19 conditions.

What Does The Paws Grant Cover
The grants provided by the PAWS bill wouldnt just cover the costs of training a dog for veterans with PTSD or TBI. They would also pay for a lifetime of veterinary health insurance for the dog, service dog hardware, and payment for travel expenses needed for the veteran to acquire the dog.
This is a fantastic step forward in helping veterans, says Tom Coleman, Executive Director of Pawsitivity Service Dogs. The VA covers service dogs for vets with other physical disabilities, but at this time, they wont cover service dogs for PTSD.

What To Know Before You Apply
It is important to note that these grants are distributed through the VA and do not directly affect the loan process.
The veterans disability rating does play a role during the time of closing on a home. In fact, about a third of VA borrowers are exempt from paying the VA Funding Fee due to service-related disabilities. In addition, the income received for service connected disability can be considered in income calculations, which may lower the veterans debt-to-income ratio.
Another perk of adapted housing grants is that they never expire. A service member that has endured a service-connected disability may apply for a grant whenever he or she wants. The grant may be used up to three times as long as it does not surpass the total initially awarded. Although that amount is generally the same for each recipient, the allocation of it varies. Some veterans may just need certain areas such as the bathroom or bedroom to be improved. Others may need to completely renovate their home to accommodate a wheelchair user. As long as the changes fall within the VA standards, they will be covered by a SAH or SHA grant.
