Come join us in Martin City on Friday, November 11th, 2022 because the Dental Care Center of South KC is back with Free Dental Day for Veterans for the first time since 2019!
We had to take off the previous two years due to that pesky pandemic, but are so excited to be back and to once again offer our services to South KCs heroes! In the previous years we have offered our dental services to those whove served us and been able to see upwards of 30-50 military vets in one day. This year, we hope to do the same, if not more. Please note, currently we are only able to offer SAME DAY treatment at this time, however we are exploring more options for other treatments and will have those details very soon!

Why We Provide Dental Services
- A veteran must be at 100% disabled or have a service-connected dental injury in order to receive free dental services through the VAMC
- Florida has the third highest veteran population in our nation
- Only 8% of our veterans are receiving dental care through the VA system

Veteran Eligibility For Dental Care
Because there are different classes for each eligibility, it can be difficult to figure out exactly which benefit you qualify for. Following the bullet points below, find which description that relates personally to you and inquire further with the party responsible for providing your care to know exactly what you are qualified and eligible for.
Class I You are eligible for any needed dental care through this class if you have a condition or dental disability that is compensated through a connected service.
Class IIC You are eligible for any needed dental care if you are a prior prisoner of war.
Class IV You are eligible for any needed dental care if you have disabilities that are rated 100% on the disabling scale that were acquired through service, or if you are unemployed strictly and unpaid because of said disability. However, veterans who are paid through extended hospitalization, pre-stabilization, or convalescence are not eligible for any comprehensive outpatient services for dental.
Class II You are eligible for one-time dental care if your DD214 certificate of discharge has not indicated that a full dental examination and appropriate treatment was rendered before your discharge. However, you can apply for such care within 180 days of being released or discharged, as long as you were not dishonorably discharged, within a period of at least 90 active days or more during the era of the Persian Gulf War.

Wvrfs Dental Assistance Program
Wounded Veterans Relief Funds dental program provides critical dental care to our veterans who do not qualify for VA dental coverage. Our dentists assist with dental infections, get our veterans out of pain, treat decay with fillings, provide dentures and implants, restore chewing capability, improve their chances of employment and overall health.

Dentists Organized For Veterans
We want to thank the Tracy community for supporting us through the last 5 years but we are moving the DOV office to Lafayette, CA. Our services will still be available to any qualifying veteran and we should be up and running when we recover from the issues raised by COVID. To receive services from the DOV Project, you will need to show proof of COVID vaccination with booster and you will be screened. Thank you for your patience. We will begin seeing patients again after it is safe to do so given the wide spread status of the COVID virus. We are receiving guidance from the CDA and the CDC. We expect to be fully functional by Spring 2022. Stay tuned to this site.

Do Disabled Veterans Get Dental Benefits
The VA may be able to provide you with dental care if you are a veteran. But dental coverage is different from VA medical coverage.
Now, you see that veterans who are not in good financial condition and need dental implants will get help from different sources. Such as the government VA Department, non-profit organizations, Government-funded local community clinics, dental schools, and lots of other sources that offer free dental implants. Your enrollment is verified once you have received a Veterans Health Benefits Handbook from the VA, which is given to notify you of the full status of your current enrollment.

The VA is not required to become your full health care provider. Therefore, if you are receiving care from a local provider through the VA, your safety and care have been coordinated to ensure that treatment or co-managed care, has been specified and created on your behalf.
If I need braces or any form of restorative or orthodontic care, will it be paid for?
Yes, and no. For all active and retired veteran service members enrolled the determination of whether or not any dental work required, not just basic cleanings, is determined by a VA professional dentist under any and all circumstances.
As previously stated, it all depends on what you qualify for, the classification you are eligible for, and what the VA has concluded after an examination.
I am moving and need to transfer my care to a new facility, how do I do it?
Transferring your VA health care from a facility requires you contacting your PACT to workout assistance through the Traveling Veteran Coordinator to fully establish an appointment with the new facility that will handle your care.
What if I cant pay my bill?
Insurance Specifically For Military Retirees And Veterans
Veterans who do not meet the eligibility requirements for VA dental assistance can still get some help. Dental insurance is available at a reduced cost through the VA Dental Insurance Program or VADIP. Dependents and beneficiaries of veterans can get similar coverage through a program called CHAMPVA, Civilian Health and Medical Program of the VA, which covers both medical and dental services.
These programs are voluntary and can provide good coverage for service members and military retirees along with their families. The VA has contracted with a few private insurance companies to provide these policies at a cheaper rate than civilians will pay.
The policies are an affordable option for veterans who either do not qualify for VA dental coverage or to fill in the gaps for those who are only covered for certain things. For example, a recent vet who takes advantage of his or her one-time dental visit through the VA may then opt to sign up for VADIP and CHAMPVA for additional dental work or future checkups for a spouse and kids.

Dentists Organized For Veterans The Dov Project
The DOV Project is a non-profit, 5013, dental clinic whose patient base are all veterans of any branch who do not qualify for dental services from the VA and are not in a financial position to pay for on-going dental treatment. Currently, the qualifications to receive dental treatment from the Veterans Administration Health Services is quite narrow. In general, a veteran qualifies for dental services if he or she has a service related dental injury, is fully disabled or is a former prisoner of war. Veterans who do not fit in either of these categories or classes receive no dental benefits regardless of his or her need for dental care. Consequently, a significant portion of veterans, many of whom cannot afford dental insurance, suffer through extremely poor oral health and dental neglect. The dental professionals at DOV, over seen by Clinical Director, Angela Bayat, DDS, seek to address this appalling circumstance and provide the same standard of care and variety of services found in any modern, private practice at no cost to the veteran.
Free Dental Care For Veterans Available June 8
Aspen Dental dentists and teams will once again be providing free dental care to veterans nationwide on June 8.
For the sixth year, nearly 500 Aspen Dental offices nationwide will open their doors to serve veterans in their local communities as part of their community giving initiative, the Healthy Mouth Movement.
Starting May 1, veterans can call 844-277-3646 to find a participating Aspen Dental office in their community and schedule an appointment for June 8.

Advance appointments are required.
Dentists and teams will treat the most urgent needs of each veteran to ensure any dental pain is relieved, including anything from fillings and extractions to basic denture repairs.
Routine cleanings and examinations will also be provided free of charge.

Ou College Of Dentistry To Offer Free Dental Care To Oklahoma Veterans

The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, Oklahoma Dental Association, Oklahoma Dental Foundation and Henry Schein Dental will host the third annual Veterans Day Dental Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The coordinated one-day event improves access to care and provides professional dental services at no cost to Oklahoma veterans. With limited dental benefits provided to veterans, access to oral health care can be difficult, and often, veterans delay urgent needs. Regular dental appointments are essential in evaluating, diagnosing, preventing, or treating oral diseases, which can affect systemic health.
To participate in the event, participants must be pre-screened. Pre-screening appointments are available now through November 10. Call 271-7744 to schedule an appointment.
The Veterans Day Dental Clinic and all pre-screening appointments will take place at the OU College of Dentistry on the OU Health Sciences Center campus, 1201 N Stonewall Avenue, Oklahoma City.

WHO WE ARE
In 2011, renowned dentist and philanthropist, Charles Zahedi DDS, PhD, addressed this urgent need by founding Oral Disability Rescue, a non-profit composed of a small group of volunteer dentists and dental assistants who provided desperately needed dental care to impoverished and disabled veterans living in Southern California. The name has since changed to Dentists for Veterans, to better reflect the service and the target population. Since its inception, over $500,000 of dental services have been provided to veterans in need eliminating pain and infection, while improving overall health and quality of life.
