This VA program is offered to veterans and service members with service-connected disabilities that affect the ability to find or maintain a job. The Veteran Readiness and Employment program offers five tracks designed to help vets get training, an education, to find a job, or maintain a job, according to the VA official site.

A Summary Washington States Education Benefits For Dependents Of 100% Disabled Veterans Or Those Who Died As A Result Of Military Service

Veterans Education Benefits Number
  • The State Legislature requires state community colleges, colleges and universities to waive all undergraduate tuition and fees for eligible dependents of eligible veteran or national guard member up to 200 quarter credits or equivalent semester credits.

  • Waivers for graduate credits are encouraged but not required.

  • Fees include all assessments for costs incurred as a condition to a student’s full participation in coursework and related activities at an institution of higher education.

  • A book stipend is provided to recipients of the dependents tuition waiver. The stipend is intended for textbooks and course materials in the amount of five hundred dollars per academic year. Funds are divided equally among academic terms and prorated for part-time enrollment.

  • Eligible veteran or national guard member is the same as defined in the tuition waiver law , RCW 28B.15.621.

Nevada National Guard Tuition Waiver Program:

The University of Nevada System provides 100% tuition waiver, excluding some laboratory and university fees, to all current and newly recruited members of the Nevada National Guard at all state universities and community colleges. There is no limit on number of credits taken.

Eligibility: Available for traditional classroom education only and students/National Guard member must maintain a 2.0 GPA per semester.

Arizona Tuition And Fees Deferred Payment:

A veteran or eligible dependent who has applied for educational benefits under the G.I. Bill and is attending a state-supported college or university may defer payment of tuition, fees and required books for a period of 120 days with no interest charges. If at the end of such period, VA has not given the person the initial benefit monies for tuition and fees, an extension may be granted until such benefits are received.

The Veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial assistance to United States Armed Forces personnel who served in the Afghanistan or Iraq Conflicts, and their sons, daughters, or spouses who are current high school seniors, and full-time and part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled in an eligible accredited Maryland post secondary institution.

Education Benefits For Disabled Veterans

State Park Admission

25% discount for annual pass to all state parks for all honorably discharged veterans.

Veterans with a service-connected disability can receive a free military entrance pass, good for admission to all Florida State Parks. This lifetime pass is valid for park admission of up to eight people, at most locations.

Proof of identification, service-connected disability and honorable discharge are required.

Acceptable documentation include: Valid drivers license Documentation from Department of Defense or another appropriate agency of service-connected disability DD Form 214 showing honorable discharge.

The military entrance pass can only be obtained in person at any Florida State Park.

Surviving Spouses and parents of US military members who have died in combat are also eligible for this pass.

Campsite Discount:

Additionally, if you plan to do some camping in the Sunshine State, you may be eligible for a 50% discount on your campsite. This discount is only available to Florida citizens who either are at least 65 years old or have a 100% disability. Proof of age, disability and residency are required upon arrival in order to receive this discount.

Tax Credits And Exemptions

New Hampshire offers a standard minimum $700 tax credit for 100% disabled veterans and their surviving spouses.

Full property tax exemptions are granted for any veteran with a 100% Permanent and Total disability rating who is a double amputee of the upper or lower extremities or any combination thereof who is paraplegic or who has blindness of both eyes with visual acuity of 5/200 or less. The veteran must also own a specially adapted home acquired with assistance from the VA.

A 100% disabled veteran who is blind, paraplegic, or a double amputee as a result of service and who owns a specially adapted home acquired with the assistance of the VA is exempt from all property tax on the home. The veterans surviving spouse is also exempt from these property taxes.

The state of Florida operates 6 Veterans nursing homes and 1 assisted living facility throughout the state. Basic admission requirements for all veterans nursing homes in Florida include an honorable discharge, Florida residency for one year prior to admission, and certification of need of nursing home care by a VA physician.

Education Benefits

Many states offer some kind of supplemental or replacement education benefit for veterans. In Illinois, a program known as the Illinois Veterans Grant is for qualifying veterans who listed Illinois as their home of record while serving, or who joined the military while living in the state. This program offers full tuition coverage that can be used separately from or in conjunction with the GI Bill.

Other states offer free or reduced tuition for the dependents of military members. California, Alabama, and other states offer such programs, which may be subject to change from year to year due to legislation or budget issues.

North Dakota veterans with a service-connected 100% disability rating are eligible for Disabled American Veteran license plates.

DAV license plates exempt veterans from paying sales tax on up to two vehicles. Additionally, there is no annual license or registration fee. An unremarried surviving spouse can retain one DAV plate for their own use.

  • The son, daughter or surviving spouse of a victim of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, who died as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the attack on the Pentagon in Virginia, or the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania
