There are four state veterans cemeteries: Black Mountain, Goldsboro, Jacksonville, and Spring Lake. Honorably discharged North Carolina veterans can be buried for free, there is a small charge for spouses.

The exact procedure for applying for a Disabled Veterans plate tends to vary slightly state by state. An eligible applicant may obtain one free set of Disabled Veteran license plate. No specialty plate, transfer, processing, or replacement plate/tab fees are due delinquent renewal penalty applies.
An eligible applicant may obtain additional Disabled Veteran license plates. Additional plates shall be subject to all registration and personalization fees including registration, processing, transfer, replacement, second plate, reservations, and renewal penalty fees.
An applicant with multiple Disabled Veteran license plates may convert one paid registration to a no fee registration upon surrender of the no fee plate.
To qualify for Disabled Veteran specialty license plates, you must be a Missouri resident who has served in and was honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.

This is allowed if the student is attending a state college using the GI Bill. A partial reading of a law passed in 2017 reveals, Recipients using transferred Post9/11 GI Bill benefitswhile the transferor is on active duty in the Armed Forcesare eligible for the inState tuition rate, provided the recipients abode is in North Carolina and the recipient provides the institution of higher education a letter of intent to establish residency in North Carolina.
