If youre interested in switching to a carrier that doesnt advertise any special military or employer-based discounts on their website, you may still be able to score some savings from them anyway.

Even if theres not an official promotion or a relevant holiday like Veterans Day, sometimes sales or customer service agents may be authorized to offer a one-time discount as an incentive for people to switch to their carrier. The trick to scoring this type of discount is simply asking.

Military / Veteran Discounts Not Really

AT& T is offering Veteran, Military discounts, or so they would have you believe. It is really just a marketing ploy. Why do I say that:

1) Because you have to have AT& T Wireless to get the discounts. If you have AT& T Phone, Internet, and TV, but not wireless, you are not eligible. It is just a ploy to get you to switch to AT& T Wireless, and bundle your services with them.

2) Also, if you have a prior promotional discount on your AT& T Internet, you are not eligible for the discount. A true discount would be based upon your military service, not your AT& T plan.

If it was a true Veterans discount, it would be applied to Veterans, regardless of the service, without you having to buy something specific to get it. AT& T is USING the Veteran advertising for their own gain. The exceptions on the promotion indicate that only care about your service to your country if they can profit from it.

What We Dont Like About T

Less coverage in rural areas

T-Mobiles coverage isnt quite as reliable as Verizon, but its still decent. Just dont be surprised if your network drops while youre out in the wilderness.

We recently took a T-Mobile phone out into the wilderness of Yellowstone to see if we could find any bars. About 10 minutes after we passed through the national park gates, our bars started dropping like flies. Coverage crept back up from time to time, but the coverage was far from reliable. This is a good thing to keep in mind if you’re going to find yourself in a national park or exploring the great outdoors any time soon.

Likewise, if you live in a more rural area, or camping is your family vacation of choice, you might run into low bars with a T-Mobile plan.

Does T-Mobile have any other choices for veterans?

Sadly, no. The only T-Mobile veteran plan is the Magenta Eligible Military Only.
