Fort Worth Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits

To qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits in Fort Worth, you must have earned a minimum number of work credits. As a general rule, you must have earned a total of 40 work credits in the course of your life. 20 of these work credits must have been earned over the last 10 years.

However, if you are a younger worker who has not had the opportunity to earn the required number of work credits, your application for SSDI benefits may be approved with fewer work credits on your record. You have the opportunity to earn four work credits per year. The amount of money you need to earn per work credit changes annually. As of 2022, when you earn $1510, you can earn one work credit.

However, it is not only the number of work credits that determines whether you will qualify for SSDI benefits. You must also have a qualifying disability. The SSA keeps a list of qualifying medical conditions that will make you eligible for SSDI benefits. Having a disability that is not on this list does not necessarily mean you will not qualify for Social Security disability insurance benefits, but it does mean that the SSA is more likely to deny your application, forcing you to move forward with an appeal.

Whether your claim for SSI or SSDI benefits was denied, there are multiple ways in which you can move forward with an appeal. There are four stages of Social Security disability appeals as follows:

  • Reconsideration Here, you are requesting a secondary review of your initial SSD claim and have the opportunity to present additional evidence to support your case.
  • Hearing by an administrative law judge If your denial is upheld at the reconsideration level, you can request a hearing before an administrative law judge who will review your application and the evidence in your case.
  • Review by the Appeals Council If the Appeals Council agrees to review your SSD application and denials, they can make a decision after reviewing the details of your case or return your application to an administrative law judge for additional review.
  • Federal Court Reviews Filing a civil suit in a federal district court is the last option you have if your SSDI claim has been denied. This may be a viable option if the Appeals Council elects not to review your case or upholds your previous application denial.

Social Security Administration To Resume In

The Social Security Administration is pleased to announce that local Social Security offices restored in-person services, including for people without an appointment, in April. This includes the 23 offices across Washington state.

In King County there are offices in downtown Seattle, North Seattle, Bellevue, Kent, and Burien. To avoid waiting in line, we strongly encourage people who can to use our online services, call us, and schedule appointments in advance rather than walking in without an appointment. Phone appointments can save you a trip to a busy office. We thank the public for your patience as we work to increase service.

Customers who walk in without appointments may encounter delays and longer waits at our offices. Be aware that our offices tend to be the busiest first thing in the morning, early in the week, and during the early part of the month, so people may want to plan to visit at other times. Given that many of the people we serve have health vulnerabilities, and consistent with our union agreements, we are continuing to require certain safety measures including masking, physical distancing, and self-health checks for COVID-19 symptoms. We will provide masks to the public and employees if they need them.

How Do I Apply For A Temporary Social Security Card

The Social Security Administration does not issue temporary Social Security cards. However, there is a way to get something almost as good. If you need a same-day Social Security card replacement, here is what you need to do. You will need to complete the Form SS-5 application and return it in-person to your local Social Security office. Upon the acceptance of the application, the SSA rep will be able to issue you a receipt showing that your application for a new card has been completed. This receipt will act as a temporary Social Security card in some cases. Many agencies will accept this receipt in lieu of your new card, although this will not always work. If they do not accept the receipt, then you will need to wait until you receive your new card in the mail.
